Doxing Victim Zoe Quinn Launches Online "Anti-harassment Task Force"

firex726 Re:Slashdot stance on #gamergate (680 comments)

First your entire understanding is completely incorrect.

She initially claimed that a RO was needed becuase he was spreading nudes of her, while it was she who posted them publicly when working as a model. A) He did not spread the links (or rather nothing concrete can be found to link him), and B) they were distributed BEFORE the RO was issued; give they were used as justification for one.

Unless you are now arguing that action which promoted the issuance of a RO can then be used as evidence of violating it after issuance?

Secondly, I guess you missed the start of the second paragraph, wherein she claims Milo and Gjoni are part of some group whose purpose is to spread doxx information. When in fact they had never met or spoken before GamerGate and only talked as reporter and interviewee. You might as well claim that Brianna Wu is part of the same group becuase she interacted with Milo in the same capacity.

Third, if you simply listen to the podcast, it was not Gjoni discussing that information. KoP was, and Gjoni was just present. So even if the information was spread, it was not Gjoni spreading it. A RO may prevent Gjoni from discussing the matter but that does not hold him liable for when others do.

Also in followup to this, Gjoni's Lawyer was then doxxed and threatened; and the doxxer is now being sued.

RalphRetort has the rest of the links but I am opting not to share them directly due to doxxing issues.

ummm... Just FYI, ZQ is not her real name, it was an alias used during her time as a porn model.

firex726 Re:Slashdot stance on #gamergate (680 comments)

Don't like what they say?

They have flat out said that DOXXING is acceptable, that it's only a matter of wrong targets, not methods.

Hell, ZQ has retweeted doxxes of Wiki editors, including trans minors.

Tweet:

The referenced doxx (censored):

OR how as part of the gag order, she claimed that Gjoni spread internet links to nude pictures of her, while failing to mention these were images she had made public of her own volition, while working as a model/camgirl.

And claimed that he and Milo, are part of some professional doxxing organization, despite in reality they had never spoken prior to GG.

Not sure why this is flamebait, it's 100% accurate and the GG-HP was accepting of any volunteer. This just get's ZQ more publicity.

Study: Belief That Some Fields Require "Brilliance" May Keep Women Out

firex726 Re:Response Rate (218 comments)

I'd be curious about the response rate for the different fields of study. Did Humanities and Social fields have greater response rates then others; becuase that would introduce an unaccounted for bias?

Documents vs. Pages

31 Thousand DOCUMENTS vs 5 Million PAGES

Depends on if they count each page as it's own unique document, summary specifically notes that the 5mil portion was pages, most any other use will have a document as being one or hundreds of pages; each of those 31,000 documents could themselves have as many as a million pages each.

Hyperbole much?

Yes, a lawyer suing a fan project to protect a trademark may be shitty PR; but it hardly compares to the Nazis and Nuremberg.

Japanese Publishers Lash Out At Amazon's Policies

firex726 Re:Comfortable, were we? (113 comments)

Well that's it, I guess once someone large exists there will be no stopping them and we should not even try. Even if we have access to capital that would rival them. Amazon is listed for around $30b net worth, while the publishing industry does billions a year, and has multiple billionaires owning publishing companies.

Would be kinda interesting having an eBay for talent like that. The more busy or talented they were the higher the price.

Japanese Publishers Lash Out At Amazon's Policies

firex726 Re:First legitimate monopoly complaint I've seen (113 comments)

Or could be that they offer better pricing when dealing in bulk.

Most businesses will give a discount when ordering in large quantities. Someone needs 10 shirts, the get to pay $20 each, someone else orders 10,000 then they pay only $12 for each; is that somehow unfair to first person?

Wither larger quantities there can be less man power required, and less estimation on the part of everyone so economies of scale come into play.

Anita Sarkeesian, Creator of "Tropes vs. Women," Driven From Home By Trolls

firex726 Re:*Dons asbestos suit* (1262 comments)

Actually she has a history of lying.

Remember her Bayonetta video? She took it down after being called out by people becuase she had never even played the game before analyzing it; she went off the trailer and box art.

And then there was the whole calling herself a gamer when right before that she said she had no interest in games and would not want to play them.

And of course her common tactic of misrepresenting quotes from game industry people if it'll further her agenda.

California Man Sues Sony Because Killzone: Shadowfall Isn't Really 1080p

firex726 Re:Seems more reasonable once you read the article (286 comments)

Hell, I am surprise it does not happen more often.

How far does it have to go before it's false advertising. You have companies shopping in-game screenshots and using them as advertising of the final product. Or using special render/graphics settings not available to users for in-game trailer footage.

California Man Sues Sony Because Killzone: Shadowfall Isn't Really 1080p

firex726 Re:You go girl (286 comments)

The monitor is 22", the viewable area is 21.5"; the monitor's actual screen extends and is covered by the bezel on the sides.

It's actually an area with a good amount of research being done, minimizing the bezel and getting as much viewable area from a display as possible.

Yea, they need to say Lease, since you are in effect leasing it for a one time fee for, however many years that they keep the authentication servers online (for digital content).

California Man Sues Sony Because Killzone: Shadowfall Isn't Really 1080p

firex726 Re:"With Nothing Better To Do"? (286 comments)

Exactly... What was with the opening?

If they claimed X and did not deliver it, it's a legitimate claim to be made. Should game companies be immune to false advertising claims just becuase they make "video games".

Would the writer also say that the Aliens:CM false trailer was also frivolous?

You're confusing military action with an actual war.

Chinese Vendor Could Pay $34.9M FCC Fine In Signal-Jammer Sting

firex726 Re:So how is that going to work (188 comments)

Yea, this situation is what contributed to the end of pirate radio boats off the coast of Britain.

The boats would broadcast and interfere with the emergency signals from commercial boating traffic; so when an accident happened and people needed rescue, no one could hear them over the pirate radio broadcasts.
