Tesla CEO Elon Musk: Fuel Cells Are 'So Bull@%!#'

fredmosby Re:Hydrogen is indeed quite dangerous... (479 comments)

Hydrogen is explosive over a much wider range of stoichiometric ratios, so a hydrogen leak is more likely to cause an explosion than a natural gas leak.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk: Fuel Cells Are 'So Bull@%!#'

fredmosby Re:Hydrogen is indeed quite dangerous... (479 comments)

Unless the hydrogen leaks into your garage, or into the cab of the car, or into your car's trunk. In those cases it could be very dangerous.

Without Plutonium, Deep-Space Probe Missions May Sputter Out

fredmosby Re:Irresponsible (268 comments)

The longer the half-life the less radioactive something is. So isotopes with half-lives in the hundreds of millions of years aren't very dangerous.

Every Public School Student In LA Will Get an iPad In 2014

You can't use a pencil and paper to look something up on Wikipedia, and having an iPad doesn't prevent someone from using paper.

Does US Owe the World an Education At Its Expense?

fredmosby I hate these kind of arguments (689 comments)

If the President truly fears that international students will use skills learned at U.S. colleges and universities to the detriment of the United States if they return home ... then wouldn't another option be not providing them with the skills in the first place?

It is if you think less education and less freedom in the world is a good thing.

Oregon Lawmakers Propose Mileage Tax On Fuel Efficient Vehicles

fredmosby Just tax all vehicles (686 comments)

They should just have a smaller mileage tax that applies to all vehicles (not just efficient ones) to avoid creating an incentive to have less efficient cars.

Tesla Motors Sued By Car Dealers

fredmosby Re:Fuck those greedy bastards. (510 comments)

It's the same with Apple products. Apple is allowed to have their own retail stores. That's why you can't by apple products anywhere else.

Of coarse in the real world you can buy them in most electronics stores.

Samsung's Galaxy S III Steals Smartphone Crown From iPhone

That should say 28 million in 13 months for the SII. I need to proofread my posts better.

fredmosby Re:iPhone 4s? (348 comments)

According to that article 28 million is the total sales for the SII over 23 months. The other numbers are the Q3 2012 sales, which covers just three months.

Windows 8 Has Scaling Issues On High-PPI Displays

fredmosby Re:Resolution independent layout (171 comments)

Unless there's something I missed, that article says windows 8 doesn't support resolution independent layout. It says windows 8 does layout in pixels, but scales every thing up for certain devices (they can have scale factors of either 100%, 140% or 180%).

Windows 8 Has Scaling Issues On High-PPI Displays

fredmosby Resolution independent layout (171 comments)

I can't believe modern devices still don't support resolution independent layout, especially on tablets. All they would have to do is design displays to send their ppi as well as their resolution to the computer, then change the operating system to make that data available programs.

McDonald's Denies Prof's Claim Staff Attacked Him For Wearing Digital Glasses

Do you have a source to back up this claim, or are you just making stuff up? If he had guns on him the transcripts from the trial probably would have mentioned it.

Texas GOP Educational Platform Opposes Teaching Critical Thinking Skills

fredmosby You must have read a different wikipedia article. (734 comments)

The one I read said that outcome based education was about determining what students should learn, then testing whether or not they actually have learned it. Obviously outcomes could be chosen that support progressive indoctrination, the same way they could be chosen to support conservative indoctrination. There's no fundamental reason Outcome-based Education would support a progressive agenda. Maybe they think it's progressive because it's new. If that's the case its pretty short sited to say something is bad because it is new.

Despite what the Texas GOP says Higher Order Thinking Skills and OBE aren't the same. One is a set of skills people can learn, the other is a method of teaching.

Arizona H-1B Workers Advised to Carry Papers At All Times

Protecting State Secrets Through Copyright

fredmosby Re:Facts can't be copyrighted. (142 comments)

What you're basically saying is "If the general population knew what the government was doing they would disapprove. So the government need to keep its actions secret." I couldn't disagree more. In order for a democratic government to work properly it needs to ba accountable to the people. That can't happen if the people don't know what the government is up to.

If people don't have realistic accounts of what happens in war they will believe the Hollywood version where the good guys never kill innocent people.

Protecting State Secrets Through Copyright

fredmosby Re:Facts can't be copyrighted. (142 comments)

Most of what was leaked never should have been a secret. The governments been keeping its activities secret so it doesn't have to be accountable to its citizens.

Bradley Manning may be a traitor to the government, but not to the American people.

It is disturbing that the US government is going to such lengths to keep its own citizens in the dark. Something has gone very wrong in Washington.
