AT&T Proposes Net Neutrality Compromise

frikken lazerz Re: Request fastlane for games (236 comments)

Because why should I have to wait for ny video to buffer when it could stream instantly? Games and videos are both entertainment. You shouldn't be able to claim your choice of entertainment deserves better service, just cuz.

Ask Slashdot: What Smartwatch Apps Could You See Yourself Using?

frikken lazerz None? (471 comments)

I don't want yet another device to carry around. I replaced my digital camera, PDA, mp3 player, etc. with ny smartphone. I don't want to go back to the days of having to carry around multiple tech products. Same goes for why I don't have a tablet. My smartphonw might not do everything as well as the individual specialized products, but it does things well enough ans really makes up for it in convenience. So until a smartwatch can make phone calls and do everything my smartphone can do, the answer is none.

European Commission Reopens Google Antitrust Investigation

frikken lazerz Re: Again? (95 comments)

It's not a monopoly. Switching search engines is free. It's not like Microsoft where it's (almost) impossible for you to buy a computer without it, and replacing windows is getting more difficult each passing year. And on desktops, Google is a voluntary choice, and even on android, you can change the default search engine, or simply set your home page to yahoo or bing if you'd like.

European Commission Reopens Google Antitrust Investigation

frikken lazerz Again? (95 comments)

If Google's rivals are being unfairly treated by Google's search results, then they should make their own search engines that are fair. Yes, I understand Google has an advantage by having a head start, but that hasn't stopped for example Facebook from overthrowing MySpace for social networking. A rival company with a better idea or better results could challenge or even defeat Google without getting even more government involvement in the internet. People voluntarily choose to use Google, at least on desktops (Bing is the default) and even if you have a search engine ballot like the EU loves to do, people still would choose Google, generally. Also remember that Google's results are from an algorithm. Googles products merely get high placement because Google is the most popular website in the internet. If the people think rival search engines are better, they will use them, but right now the simple truth is Google is the best. If you hate that, then build something better, but stop trying to abuse the legal system to get what you want.

3 Recent Flights Make Unscheduled Landings, After Disputes Over Knee Room

frikken lazerz Re: Anthropometrics (818 comments)

I have no problem flying in more cramped airlines because I take care of my health and can fit comfortably in any seat. It's not my favorite place to be, cramped in a seat like that, but I can tolerate it for continental flights (overseas I'm going at least premium economy, if not business class). Part of the problem is obesity. Now, I do feel a bit sorry for tall people, who can't control their height, but for all the advantages tall folks have in life, one minor disadvantage is almost worth it. But when fatso complains, there's no excuse there. And no you don't have a hormone problem lol. Control your weight and there wouldn't be a problem. If you have special needs, choose a flight that accommodates that, upgrade to business class, or dont fly. Vote with your wallet. Government is already way too entrenched in the aviation industry. No need for even more government restrictions.

Changing the Rules of a 15-Year-Old Game: Quake Live Update Causes Controversy

But but but! That would actually require thinking, creative ideas, and hard work! Much easier to take a page out of EA's book and just put lipstick on the pig and call it a day.

Hacker Disrupts New Zealand Election Campaign

frikken lazerz Re: Way to go (75 comments)

I show love for my country because I want my country to provide the best life for me and my family and friends. Therefore it is in my best interest to make sure my country remains powerful economically, has freedoms for its citizens, and so on. I show this love by trying yo make my country the best in the world, the best place for me and my loved ones to grow and prosper.

Hacker Disrupts New Zealand Election Campaign

frikken lazerz Re: Way to go (75 comments)

I think you're confusing "patriotism" with "jingoism" or "imperialism". Patriotism is good. It's great to love your country and do things that show that love. However, part of patriotism is being able to admit your country has flaws, and doing your best to fix them. It's not the "my country right or wrong" kind of stupidity that may americans have (and they call that patriotism, sadly), nor is it the imperialistic "let's invade other countries to make them right that many Americans also support. It's a lobe for your country with a desire to make it the best it can be. I'm proud to be a patriot, but I despise those who confuse patriotism with jingoism and imperialism.

Climate Damage 'Irreversible' According Leaked Climate Report

frikken lazerz Beyond what humans can do (708 comments)

Global warming has affected all continents, oceans, etc. - very powerful Humans can't even make it rain or change the weather locally. Anyone who thinks they can affect the whole world this much is a moron or shill for some environmental group. Global warming exists. Anyone who denies that is also a moron. But it's certainly not manmade. To all you science people, correlation does not equal causation. How else do you explain the many periods of warming and cooling in the past long before humans even existed?? I rest my case before the nuts here censor my message.

California Passes Law Mandating Smartphone Kill Switch

frikken lazerz Re: The worrisome part (233 comments)

Two things: Given Google's recent trend of hating open source in android, chances are this kill switch will be part of Google play, not AOSP. Will it be illegal to install CyanogenMod until they create their own kill switch? And what happens if an individual user finds a way to block the kill switch? Is that now a crime? What if cyanogen ships the kill switch but provides some code or directions to disable it on their website? And so on. I'm just worried this will have a chilling effect on open source projects, as well as making it even harder for new phone companies to enter the market (even more governmental rules and regulations). So fuck you California. It's one thing if you dumb liberals infect your own state. It's another if you have a chilling effect on the entire US (and perhaps even around the world).

Sources Say Amazon Will Soon Be Targeting Ads, a la Google AdWords

frikken lazerz Re: Jeff, the trip you've been waiting for is ON S (83 comments)

Well, how will you feel when your mother comes over (let's assume you've escaped from mommy's basement, haha) and she uses your PC, and everywhere she goes she sees ads for *insert sensitive interest here*. Have fun explaining to her why those ads are coming up all the time. And even if you don't let neighbors or family or your computer, these targeted ads are often based on IP, so anyone with a smartphone who comes over could see them as well. Now do you see why I hate targetted ads?

But then they'd have to reveal how much data they have collected about you, and people would be creeped out (although probably not enough to stop using fb and amazon).

51% of Computer Users Share Passwords

frikken lazerz Re: 90% of people are retarded (117 comments)

What happens when the inevitable divorce comes along? Flip a coin, your odds of getting in a divorce are the same. Are you make the facebook account part of the divorce court?? I can see it now - "She gets ownership of the pictures, but you get to keep the gaming high scores!" Simply put, it's pretty stupid to share any account, even if you are "forever in love".

News Aggregator Fark Adds Misogyny Ban

frikken lazerz Re: Sigh (748 comments)

Sure, they didn't choose it, but why can't I dislike it? I should have the freedom to like or hate a person for anyreason, including stupid ones like race. Now to say gays don't deserve basic rights, that's a different story. But I shouldn't be forced to hire them or make them my friends. If I don't hire someone because he is gay and he turned out to be a better worker, my business' loss. Ideally though, keep your sexual orientation to yourself. This also goes for the guys at work bragging about picking up chicks at a bar like a frat boy. Keep that stuff out of the office please. And I don't hate gays, but I would defend a business' choice not to hire because the job seeker is gay. As I said before, their loss. And if the job seeker is dumb enough to advertise that in the interview, he is a moron. Of course America is now so PC that doing so is illegal, which is a serious problem, but don't get me too off topic about that.
