And yet this story will get more comments than the previous three tech-related articles combined. That's why it's here. It's a moneymaker, and Dice knows it.

The Woman Who Should Have Been the First Female Astronaut

frikken lazerz Re: All about perception (200 comments)

No, the problem is women simply don't make as good of soldiers as men. They are smaller and have less strength, speed, and endurance. There's no way around it. If we replaced male soldiers with female ones, the army would be less effective. It's not always sexism when there's inequality.

Living On a Carbon Budget: The End of Recreation As We Know It?

frikken lazerz Not my problem (652 comments)

Why should I have to live on a carbon budget? Just because Al Gore or some other liberal nutcases (with an agenda to promote green products, of course) tell me so? No way. If I make enough money to live an extravagant lifestyle, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm gonna do it! Global warming is happening regardless of what we do , and there's nothing we cab do to stop it. The best we can do is mitigate its effects. It's largely a natural cycle that has happened time and time again in the earth's past, and we just have to adjust to it. And as humans, the most intelligent creature on this rock, we sure as hell will find a way to do so. Long story short, we should focus our energies on adapting rather than running around in circles screaming that the sky is falling.

Intel Drops Gamasutra Sponsorship Over Controversial Editorials

frikken lazerz Re: This white-knight shit needs to stop (724 comments)

Amen to this. I know it's a controversial position to take, but women have equality (if not superiority) to males. The only reason women don't run the world is because they choose not to. They choose to have children instead. Fair enough, but you can't have it both ways, ladies. And as for the lack of equality in gaming, IT, tec., women simply have different interests. We hate to admit things are biological these days (seems to upset the PC liberals), but women naturally are drawn to more childcare type positions (nursing, teaching). Big deal. And right now, the law is so stacked against men it's not even funny. Domestic abuse? The woman wins by default. Child support, child custody, alimony? Again, men get screwed big time. All of this is in addition to chivalry by males (paying dinners, etc.) and of course, biologically, women still have mate choice, so they can (and many do) use their bodies to have power over men in morally repulsive ways. And I feel really sorry for young men growing up right now, especially those being raised ny single mothers. They are so feminized, by their parents and the school system, which favors women by punishing men for being active and forces them into a more passive feminized role. Sorry this seems to have turned into a rant, but this really needs to be said, because you almost never hear the opposite point of view (at least not in the mainstream).

Ubuntu Touch For Phones Hits RTM, First Phones Coming This Year

frikken lazerz Re: battle with Android and iOS first! (132 comments)

Ubuntu phones don't have to battle with anybody, just like Linux doesn't need to conquer the desktop. All it needs to provide is an open source Linux based phone that respects users' privacy (Android is spyware so it doesn't count) and sells just enough to give them reason to produce future phones.

Apple Yet To Push Patch For "Shellshock" Bug

frikken lazerz Re: Stallman would be proud (208 comments)

Stallman is batshit insane though, and doesn't even come close to representing the average FOSS user. That would be like thinking all liberals are like Michael Moore or all conservatives are like Rush Limbaugh. The average FOSS advocate just wants his software to work. He prefers FOSS because it is more secure and has the user's interests in mind, unlike software like iTunes that tries to sell users stuff or Chrome that tracks you and sells your data to the highest bidder. The average FOSS user doesn't care if there are binary blobs and doesn't mind using Adobe's Flash because it's way better than any of the open alternatives. This is also the reason Ubuntu and Mint are so popular, not GNUSense or whatever other totally free alternative he recommends. Tl;dr, Stallman shouldn't and represent the FOSS community, and although his ideas might be good in principle, the average user just wants his software to work on par or better than what he used to use on Windows.

Australian Senate Introduces Laws To Allow Total Internet Surveillance

frikken lazerz Re: Fine. (212 comments)

How can you assure the people and peers on the darknet aren't government agents? It's the same way government brings down pedophile and identity theft rings - pose as a member, gain trust, gather information, and then act on it (which could be, depending on what government we are talking about, anything from arrest to making you disappear).

NY Magistrate: Legal Papers Can Be Served Via Facebook

frikken lazerz Re: What? (185 comments)

Facebook probably has some way of knowing if a message has been read, even if the "message read" flag has been set back to unread. If so, I'm sure a court order could force them to produce this information. Of course it's a bit more difficult to know if they read the message title or the partial message that gets sent with an email when you have a new message, but in both these cases it could be easy to prove the message hasn't been seen (there was no email and messages weren't checked since the message was sent). Regardless though, if you saw a summary of a message that mentioned legal action (or even just saw the message was from someone you knew was taking legal action), I think it's pretty easy to conclude, beyond reasonable doubt, that the message was viewed. There's no good reason to not view it if it potentially is that important.

Ask Slashdot: What Smartwatch Apps Could You See Yourself Using?

frikken lazerz None? (471 comments)

I don't want yet another device to carry around. I replaced my digital camera, PDA, mp3 player, etc. with ny smartphone. I don't want to go back to the days of having to carry around multiple tech products. Same goes for why I don't have a tablet. My smartphonw might not do everything as well as the individual specialized products, but it does things well enough ans really makes up for it in convenience. So until a smartwatch can make phone calls and do everything my smartphone can do, the answer is none.

European Commission Reopens Google Antitrust Investigation

frikken lazerz Re: Again? (96 comments)

It's not a monopoly. Switching search engines is free. It's not like Microsoft where it's (almost) impossible for you to buy a computer without it, and replacing windows is getting more difficult each passing year. And on desktops, Google is a voluntary choice, and even on android, you can change the default search engine, or simply set your home page to yahoo or bing if you'd like.

European Commission Reopens Google Antitrust Investigation

frikken lazerz Again? (96 comments)

If Google's rivals are being unfairly treated by Google's search results, then they should make their own search engines that are fair. Yes, I understand Google has an advantage by having a head start, but that hasn't stopped for example Facebook from overthrowing MySpace for social networking. A rival company with a better idea or better results could challenge or even defeat Google without getting even more government involvement in the internet. People voluntarily choose to use Google, at least on desktops (Bing is the default) and even if you have a search engine ballot like the EU loves to do, people still would choose Google, generally. Also remember that Google's results are from an algorithm. Googles products merely get high placement because Google is the most popular website in the internet. If the people think rival search engines are better, they will use them, but right now the simple truth is Google is the best. If you hate that, then build something better, but stop trying to abuse the legal system to get what you want.

3 Recent Flights Make Unscheduled Landings, After Disputes Over Knee Room

frikken lazerz Re: Anthropometrics (819 comments)

I have no problem flying in more cramped airlines because I take care of my health and can fit comfortably in any seat. It's not my favorite place to be, cramped in a seat like that, but I can tolerate it for continental flights (overseas I'm going at least premium economy, if not business class). Part of the problem is obesity. Now, I do feel a bit sorry for tall people, who can't control their height, but for all the advantages tall folks have in life, one minor disadvantage is almost worth it. But when fatso complains, there's no excuse there. And no you don't have a hormone problem lol. Control your weight and there wouldn't be a problem. If you have special needs, choose a flight that accommodates that, upgrade to business class, or dont fly. Vote with your wallet. Government is already way too entrenched in the aviation industry. No need for even more government restrictions.
