New Hobbit Trailer Debuts

furbearntrout Re:Trailers (130 comments)

  • Sturgeon's Law applies to all mainstream films.
  • The trailer, by necessity, includes scenes from the (relatively)non-crap 10% of the film.
  • Ergo, crappy trailer==very crappy film.

Firefox, Opera Allow Phishing By Data URI Claims New Paper

furbearntrout Re:In other words... (151 comments)

In other words, IE and Chrome do not implement the data URI to the specification. Lucky them, they can pose now as "more secure".

I actually read TFS(TFRFC?). IIRC, the standard doesn't specify that an application honor redirects. It would depend on your interpretation of

"the same security considerations as any implementation of the given media type."

The passage seems to imply a "default deny" approach.

Creative Commons Urged To Drop Non-Free Clauses In CC 4.0

furbearntrout Re:free software (223 comments)

That's where the phrase Open Source came from: marketing. The phrase free software is confused with gratis, or freeware. Libre Software just sounds weird. So esr came a better phrase -- for marketing purposes. The rest, as they say, is history.

furbearntrout Re:Does Windows 8 have an opt-out feature? (489 comments)

Same with Debian.

Which is, as I recall, disabled as a default. They ask you nicely to turn it on, though.

jQuery 2.0 Will Drop Support For IE 6, 7, 8

furbearntrout Re:Should Firefox below 10.0 as well. (250 comments)

IE 8 still uses the legacy JavaScript API and DOM. Cutting 6 and 7 wouldn't do much.

jQuery 2.0 Will Drop Support For IE 6, 7, 8

furbearntrout Re:This won't really affect anything. (250 comments)

IIRC, the code path for 1.9 will be longer and slower, but it won't any additional code in your application.
