Asm.js Gets Faster

gagol Re:"So who needs native code now?" (289 comments)

A very basic AI project I prototyped the algos in JS using objects as hash tables crawled to a a halt (25 minutes compute), the same algo implemented in C++ using map/multimap used 1/100000 second for the same operation.

Asm.js Gets Faster

gagol Re:"So who needs native code now?" (289 comments)

Also, the major down point of JavaScript I found to hinder performance in ambitious projects, is memory management. In the cases where I need gigantic arrays, the performance slows down to a crawl as data grows. Anyone knowledgeable can bring some light about this aspect of asm.js?

UK ISP Adult Filters Block Sex Education Websites Allows Access To Porn

gagol Re:What will Cameron do then? (227 comments)

We let kids play ultra violent war simulation for hours and hours, but god forbid they get a glimpse of love and biology. Something is seriously wrong with this picture Mr Cameron, aside from applying technology to shape what is a social matter (mainly fear of educating properly our children).

gagol Re:Same difference. (276 comments)

But its ability to selectively document or revise history is not something unique to NK.

History is your friend. When NK was created, US still had segregation going on. Then selective neutering of population and general bio/chem/atomic weapon testing its and canada's citizens done in the name of NATIONAL SECURITY. To this day, we still have to get justice for these acts. We live in a cocoon, but we pissed off many people building our empire, everything have a price, someday.

gagol Re:Slashdot isn't the Internet? (276 comments)

The OP is technically and historically relevant. just because something is banned in a localized region does not mean (anymore) that they are erased from history. Just like secret wars of the US are secrets only the its citizens, the truth exist somewhere out there.

North Korea Erases Executed Official From the Internet

gagol Re:Arrest To Death in 4 Days for J.S. Thaek (276 comments)

You vastly underestimate the value of propaganda : "NO ONE is untouchable, I rule and you collectively suck it" PR was invented by the nephew of Sigmund Freud (Edward Brenaise?) for the profit of american industrialists following the first world war. Hitler was inspired by it. In north america it is as prevalent as anywhere else, just better managed by a couple magnitude.

gagol Re: Obummer's exit plan (276 comments)

The only reason the constitution gets violated so much today, is because the american people are lazy ass bastards thet prefer to take care of themselves instead of fighting for the common good. This applies to most countries tough, including mine.

How to teach IT to senior management

gagol gagol writes  |  about a year ago

gagol (583737) writes "I recently took a position at a small industrial equipment manufacturer. We are looking to buy a new ERM software package and my boss, who is looking forward to buy the thing, knows nothing about computers or software. I will be providing basic IT training to the senior management and I am looking for your input on the scope and content of said training. I am thinking: basic components and architecture -> networking -> software -> proprietary vs open source. What do you think?"

Parents Increasingly Naming Children Apple, Mac and Siri

gagol gagol writes  |  about a year and a half ago

gagol (583737) writes "

Out of the three aforementioned names, Apple witnessed the largest increased in the baby name charts for girls, consequently jumping 585 positions; it was up by 15 percent when compared to the previous year. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, for one, named their child Apple.

Apparently this is not a joke, and makes me very sad for the childen affected by this... It kind of confirm the recent story about our gene mutations going crazy with lack of selection."

Whonix: ubiquitous Tor for apps

gagol gagol writes  |  about a year and a half ago

gagol (583737) writes "Whonix is designed to ensure that applications (such as Flash and Java etc) can only connect through Tor. The design goal, at least, is that direct connections (leaks) ought to be impossible. "This is the only way we know of that can reliably protect your anonymity from client application vulnerabilities and IP/DNS and protocol leaks," the developers explain."

facebookmail.com scam?

gagol gagol writes  |  about a year and a half ago

gagol (583737) writes "I just received an e-mail from facebookmail.com asking me to click on very suspicious looking links to resolve login issues [which I never had]. It says the e-mail has been sent following a request [that I never did]. I was able to login to my facebook account without a problem, and all seems to be in order in my account... Does anyone else have experienced similar suspicious activity?"

Amateur programmer needs your opinion

gagol gagol writes  |  about 2 years ago

gagol writes "Dear slashdotters. After following ai-class.com and failing gracefully due to relatively poor statistics skills, I started a small library project called libguess, to enable computers to guess when exact text is not found in a given set of commands. Statistical analysis of only the most relevant valid words insure predictable performance with dictionaries of any size.

Since I have no formal training in engineering and always worked in marketing (I know, I am evil ;-), I would like to have your collective opinion of it to help me progress in my open source hobby.

To try the demo program: download and compile the library, install the shared object manually and run the demo (linux build with source code, should compile pretty much anywhere but untested)."

Do blind people use smartphones?

My bet is most use plain cell phones with real buttons, but I would prefer to have the feedback of the community. Thank you all for participating."
