Ask Slashdot: How To Start With Linux In the Workplace?

genghisjahn This! (452 comments)

"Now the problem is what works perfectly fine for me may be a horrible experience for some of my coworkers," So glad to hear some one advocating Linux say this. It's not all about MY experience and if YOU don't like it then that's YOUR problem.

How Do You Backup 20TB of Data?

genghisjahn Re:Crashplan (983 comments)

So you want free-multiTB-offsite-encrypted backup that completes in an hour? Backup is hard to do. I'm not sure what you're expecting.

You can backup(encrypted) to a friends computer and not use CP stuff at all. Check out the Local and Offsite plan.

PC Shipments In 2013 See the Worst Yearly Decline In History

genghisjahn Re:I'm not worried... (564 comments)

I agree, only with a tad less snark. But you are right, most people do not need the full power of the PC. Email, Web, streaming video. If a device does those three things then what else do you need? What's that? It makes calls too? One less device to buy. Heck, most people don't use the full power of their phone.

Well, there's substantive fraudulent frolicking fraud sorbet. That hasn't got much fraud in it.

Xbox One: No Always-Online Requirement, But Needs To Phone Home

genghisjahn Re:Gamestop already rip off customers (395 comments)

Sell the game yourself, there are a number of ways to do it. If you don't like going through the process of collecting payment, packaging the game and shipping it yourself, well, that's what you are paying GameStop for, not having to deal with the aggravation.

Selling in the digital age and WOTC's pdf saga.

genghisjahn genghisjahn writes  |  more than 5 years ago

genghisjahn (1344927) writes "A great blog post about the WOTC/PDF thing and why they probably don't care if you don't like it. Don't freak. He's on our side. From the article... "The applicable one here being that someone at Wizards of the Coast — not the whole company by any means, but someone — is working furiously to rebottle the Internet genie. Furiously. This person has no idea how to behave when the business of selling electrons turns out to have different, and largely uncharted difficulties compared to selling atoms. And no idea what to do when the customer becomes a participant in the product.""
