Why Mozilla Is Committed To Using Gecko

glpierce Re:No chrome until adblock and flashblock (632 comments)

Others have already pointed out why your comment doesn't apply to what I wrote, but I just wanted to note that I was actually involved in Adblock's development for a time, and created the first widely-available set of filters for it. As a result, I got a bit of a chuckle out of what you said.

G writes "A few days ago, my hosting provider blocked my account because they thought I was under a DDOS attack (the shared server's performance was being affected). What they were seeing, however, was the success of Filterset.G, which I hosted through them at pierceive.com. The Adblock Filterset.G Updater Add-On for Firefox automatically checks for updates every 4-7 days, resulting in some pretty crazy stats (in October, there were 17.8 million hits, but only 32.93 GB bandwidth used), which would understandably overwhelm shared hosting solutions. Donations barely covered the cost of hosting as it was ($200/year), and I can't afford to pay for anything out of pocket. For the record, it was a "SuperHosting MultiSite" account, which I think was the biggest available from Site5 when I first got it. They now recommend I find a dedicated server or server cluster. Are Slashdotters aware of any cheap hosting solutions capable of handling Filterset.G's needs? Is it even feasible, or would some sort of peer-to-peer setup be the only option?"
