Hard Drive Reliability Study Flawed?

gx5000 Re:my car mp3 drive is still working (237 comments)

Most people abuse what they don't understand....
Then there are bad batches of HDD's you get stuck with as well.

I still have old PC's with fully working HDD's that have been treated with respect (never overheated).

I don't expect the same from the PC's at work though, server rack or PC.

Cheers !

Apple Devices To Reach Parity With Windows PCs In 2014

gx5000 Re:Units sold or already out? (511 comments)

Most of our PC's have auto update off and we choose what third party software to run when we discover 0 day bugs (that we usually solve on our own). This whole phone line to the mothership approach to OS's has to stop, but it won't with that cloud over our heads. It's almost time for me to retire and go fix PC's and servers in my spare time, since I can see the coming storm...

Apple Devices To Reach Parity With Windows PCs In 2014

gx5000 Re:Units sold or already out? (511 comments)

They're also comparing apples and oranges.....
"Devices" aren't PC's or solid platforms.....
The day the pad, phone or tablet is an actual workhorse is the day it can go one on one with the Windows PC.

gx5000 Re:going after GMO is like banning screwdrivers (510 comments)

Don't confuse GMO's with cross pollination or cross breading, NOT THE SAME ! GMO force an unwelcomed dna strand into the mix that Nature itself would accomplish.

Anti-GMO Activists Win Victory On Hawaiian Island

gx5000 Re:victory against science (510 comments)

It was retracted because of threats, corruption and one of their team become co-opted. Read some more and find out what actually happened. Never mind that ANY researcher trying to get funds to research GMO's for possible negative effects is asking for his career to end. Monsanto doesn't play fair when profits loom in the balance and they couldn't give two shits about our health.

Anti-GMO Activists Win Victory On Hawaiian Island

gx5000 Re:victory against science (510 comments)

It's shills like you that continue to suppress the information that GMO's are a pandoras' box. There is so much information out here that Monsanto and their ilk you'd rather not know. Anti-GMO proponents are not anti-science (sounds like a fox news insult) they are on the side of labeling so we, the people can choose. The pro gmo faction knows if we have a choice, their products will no longer sell, and there are a multitude of reasons for this, but until you avail yourself of the documented effects of gmo's you'll remain ignorant of their dangers. Side with the Corps that told us that Agent Orange is safe and get back to me.

Ask Slashdot: Working With Others, As a Schizophrenic Developer?

gx5000 Re:No experience, but... (218 comments)

You're not alone......I've been out here for twenty seven years with depression and it's been tough dealing with "drones" that just can't seem to understand that all people just can't think like them, especially in Corporate environments. I wish you all the best and luck in finding co-workers that aren't self immersed.

Ask Slashdot: How Do I Convince Management To Hire More IT Staff?

gx5000 SLA and productivity (383 comments)

The key is not meeting your SLA's and showing them why it's staff related... The old days of over inflating staff numbers so you're ready for any emergency is over in this day and age of cost cutting to keep profits up or costs down. Basically, people like you deserve better, and will never get it (hope I'm wrong there) because we're the real deal and not just lazy hack that doesn't give a crap about what their job entails. Most of my underlings won't do anything coming even close to troubleshooting at home since they do that at work, kind of a race car driver not driving his own home car....you get the picture.

The Desktop Is Dead, Long Live the Desktop!

gx5000 Re:personal computing (453 comments)

They already HAVE given their toys so much control over their lives it's frightening.... I probably won't live long enough to see the cloud fail, and get shredded to bits over security, performance and privacy concerns but I hate it when I remember who runs the show, the money and corps, not the technologists that see the train heading for the brick wall. Technology might have been brought forth to make our lives better, it was indeed funded to create more wealth for the yada yada yada.... I need to retire soon but I'm not obsolescent quite yet.
