Apple Devices To Reach Parity With Windows PCs In 2014

#HashTagDeals Re: Units sold or already out? (511 comments)

I personally own 7 working apple devices, 4 non working devices. My parents own 7... And just recently we let about 5 go. If you we insinuating apple users don't have extra devices you may be wrong. Oh and us apple guys also save our apple boxes. How many windows boxes do you have?

Ask Slashdot: What Are the Books Everyone Should Read?

#HashTagDeals Re:It's kind of long and meandering (796 comments)

I'd say the opposite, the dictionary is the combination of all books and writings in to a single entity. The dictionary never introduces a new word.

RMS: How Much Surveillance Can Democracy Withstand?

#HashTagDeals The United States is not a Democracy (264 comments)

The US is a democratic republic which means we elect people to make decisions for us. And its not going that great right now because people keep voting for people because reasons other than their knowledge and experience. For example Obama had no prior economic, military nor executive experience. Democracy is mob rule. It gave us Prop 8 in California and hindered all civil rights issues. The average person has little to no specialized knowledge on the issues they vote on. THe majority is always going to support an issue on rumor, gossip and flat-out wrong information their friend or the internet told them. What we need are small groups of representatives who are well versed on an issue -- like scientists and global warming.

Fight Bicycle Theft With the Open Source Bike Registry

#HashTagDeals Useless (135 comments)

Having some personal experience with bike theft, this is pointless. This plan relies on the premises that the stolen bikes are sold, the potential buyers give a darn that its stolen, and that the identifying marks are on the bike when it changes hands. Police don't even care no matter how expensive the bike.

Read Better Books To Be a Better Person

#HashTagDeals What makes a better person? (158 comments)

Empathy is good an all but I dont think its the leading quality to becoming a better person. I argue that becoming self sufficient (ie not a burden) makes one a better person because then one wouldn't have to depend on other's empathy.
