I'm buying stock in companies that manufacture noise cancellation headphones. Last thing I want is someone in close proximity talking on a phone.

Bill Gates Wants To Remake the Way History Is Taught. Should We Let Him?

hedleyroos Re:Is the history he teaches incorrect? (363 comments)

I watched the Big History TV series and was unimpressed. They attempt to make connections between items spanning billions of years eg. Kennedy was killed by a bullet, lead is formed in supernovas. It feels as if the episodes suffer from ADD. Not enough time is spent on a single subject.

What exactly is wrong with the way history is teached? Or is old Bill trying to rewrite a few bits to fit his vision?

The Hobbit and Game of Thrones Top Most Pirated Lists of 2013

hedleyroos Obvious (193 comments)

Fans of those movies / shows are more into gaming / software and know how to use torrents and usenet. There will always be a percentage of people who pirate material. The industry should just accept that and move on.

Gravity: Can Film Ever Get the Science Right?

hedleyroos Re:No, because reality is FUCKING BORING (438 comments)

I disagree. Reality can be entertaining. Like on The Avengers when Thor uses the metal tower to focus Mjolnir, that's real application of science.

Boxes are easy to transport and may be subject to different taxation. The downsides are quite bad: higher sulphur content, looks tacky and no flow of air to soften tannins once opened.

Politician threatens to close twitter accounts

hedleyroos hedleyroos writes  |  more than 3 years ago

hedleyroos (817147) writes "The South African ANC Youth League is upset about twitter accounts portrating themselves as its controversial leader. They have gone so far as to contact the US embassy in South Africa to assist in shutting down the satirical accounts. From their spokesperson: 'We don't want to expose our strategy on how we will get them. But we will get them and we are going to report them to the police. It's fraud, this thing, it's unacceptable, it's against the law. We will also institute civil claims against them and sue them.'

A radio personality added further fuel to the fire by encouraging people to create more such accounts."
