Apple Censors Consumer Report iPhone4 Discussions

hemlock00 Police Report (588 comments)

I could see the resulting police report riddled with the words "Angry", "Chair", "Balmer stealing toys" all throughout.

Colleges Stepping Up Anti-Cheating Technology

hemlock00 Re:Retarded (439 comments)

Bravo.

As someone who is just finishing up my own degree, I can run down the entire list and make reference to my experience with every time you have there.

I especially like the 'Speak English' one as a I frequently find myself in a math course which have the biggest offenders. In all honesty, caring not for mod downs, I think it's something that really does need to be addressed. It's hard enough if you're doing the studying like you should; why add the duty of interpretation to the workload???

Google Acquires ITA Software, Regulators May Balk

hemlock00 Re:Google Maps (72 comments)

Why stop there, I got a bunch of useful ones.

-By Car, but you get stuck in 40 minutes of *#^&)(@# traffic

-By Bike and you get 2 flats from the road liter

-By Air, considering you're going to leave the gate on time so they can classify it as on time but then sit on the tarmac for 4 hours while they feed you some bullshit excuse like your luggage is coming when in reality the engine is on fire and they want a 2-dollar fix so they can keep your money

These would be equally, if not more helpful than the options I currently get from google.

The Safari Reader Arms Race

hemlock00 Bad Article, imo (210 comments)

"There is a reader option on Safari 5." Would be a much better article than the one posted, while sharing the same information and NOT sharing false info. It doesn't always work 100% is truth, but at the same time I'm not being forced to use it, and it's not by default (the most important). This is a poorly written and misleading article unfortunately.

House Calls For Hearing On Stock Market "Glitch"

hemlock00 Re:Well... (180 comments)

So in the years of trading thats been going on since they switched to computers, this is the first time an error like that occurred? doubtful. The way I understand it, you not only get a prompt, but a second one if you're trading in high enough values. And, on the unlikely event that it *is* true, its all the more reason to HAVE a hearing because anyone can legitimately crash the stock market by simply making a trade.

House Calls For Hearing On Stock Market "Glitch"

hemlock00 Re:Well... (180 comments)

Are you suggesting we shouldn't have a hearing for it? Not really sure the benefit of *not* having a hearing would be. At the most, it draws more attention to the fragile system, and there would be a possibility of something being done about it. At the least, it would officially destroy the idiotic excuse that "someone hit b instead of m" story that some media has been circulating.

One Year Later, USPS Looks Into Gamefly Complaint

hemlock00 sick the dogs on em (183 comments)

INAL, but I think it could be a start of a legal issue in that, when the USPS is accepting a package to deliver and fails to do so in a magnitude of millions in "lost" mail and offering an extremely slow response. Beyond that, I would bet that if/when the question list is answered, no change will occur. Another point I hope either UPS or Fedex see is that there is a market for cheap "it-gets-there-when-it-gets-there" delivery which only the post office really offers now. I believe that if the people could send little packages like dvds/games for 2 bucks using fedex or UPS, the post office would go under since it's already so far in the red.

Students Flock To GMU For a Degree In Video Game Design

hemlock00 Don't sell yourself short! (225 comments)

If the people are interested, and have the ability to create video games, they may find doing a normal computer science degree much much more rewarding. If you major in computer science, you then have the ability to produce video games, but you also have the rest of the software world to look for potenial jobs. I would most likely discourage a friend looking into this for those reasons. You may not have super video game specifics, but you have more than the foundation to get there.

jQuery Cookbook

hemlock00 Re:File size of jQuery (85 comments)

Better to download the actual script files from their website rather than linking to it. If it's unable to connect for any reason (happened to me personally) the layout to all potential customers is most likely not what they would consider a professional website since all your pages are being displayed at once.

At least he made an attempt (or claims that he did). By law, he's not required to do that. What's more American than trying to make a quick buck?

Senators Tell Facebook To Quit Sharing Users' Info

hemlock00 Re:Allow us to "opt-in" (256 comments)

I think the key difference in your house example is that you're not agreeing to give up the home, whereas on facebook, and other sites with EULAs is that you have to agree (even if you don't read it) to use their service. Now I don't think there is anything wrong with having a set of rules for a service you create. But the problem is that companies know the majority of people don't read them and use it to take advantage. If you don't have the time to read _each_ TOS agreement you sign up with, then don't sign up for it. If you're smart and read them, you won't be taken advantage of. IMO, the companies may be shady in using the EULAs/TOS agreements knowing people don't read them, but people hold blame too.

Too much government. It's sad to think that for something constructed to to keep the citizens safe would also find itself suitable to take it upon the right to deem what is acceptable for others.
