Android Game Devs Worry Over Ease of Copying

hyartep Re:i wonder (210 comments)

i'm not sure how it's with android, but i know several symbian apps, that were available from developer website (usually beta) and later they moved to the ovi store.
this way, you could have false app in the market first.

otoh: if there is confusion, who is the publisher, it's easy for google to sell the app, keep the money and transfer them later to the right one.

If App Store's Trademark Is Generic, So Is Windows'

hyartep Re:Amazon lost (356 comments)

omg! of course it's copyrighted by apple.
everybody knows "app" comes from "apple".
as in apple store -> app store ... ... so every app developer should pay 30% to apple! ;-)

Should Younger Developers Be Paid More?

hyartep it's about skills (785 comments)

i think it's usually skills that matter, not age. .. and just for reference there can be many skills to consider, it may be knowledge of the technology required by customers, as well as ability to create clean code, communicate with team, improve and so on.

Nokia Reasserts Control Over Symbian OS

hyartep Re:rumours of death are premature (135 comments)

i'm sure (at least) at&t will offer n8 and/or some other symbian^3 devices.

proof: nokia AND at&t organize contest to create symbian apps - http://www.callingallinnovators.com/10M/
the contest ends Jan 28th.

this date also could be the date when some important improvements to symbian^3 are released (scheduled for "early 2011").

with these 2 things and manufacturing fully running, nokia will be ready for usa, imho.

Nokia Reasserts Control Over Symbian OS

hyartep Re:Nokia isn't making clear why we should care (135 comments)

n8 is cameraphone. n9 will have great camera, but i'm sure it will be worse than n8's, n9 will have other selling features.

Nokia Reasserts Control Over Symbian OS

hyartep Re:Illustrates importance? (135 comments)

they simply cannot forget symbian, because:
1) they are still relevant because of huge number of symbian users
2) meego is not ready and will some need time to mature
3) if there is problem with meego, or meego adoption and symbian is obsoleted, they are dead.

+ they need OS for low/mid-end and symbian is better for that than meego.

nokia still sells more devices each quarter. so their share is getting smaller, but nowhere negative.

Nokia Names Microsoft's Elop As New CEO

hyartep Re:Interesting turn of fate (140 comments)

far more, nokia is embracing linux for it's next mass platform (meego) and open-sourcing it's current platforn (symbian).

i hope they will keep this attitude.

for now they are a little slow to deliver, but they are imho the most open mobiles company.

The Scalability of Linus

hyartep Re:Egos don't scale (239 comments)

there are two main reasons for this:

* some people have clever ideas put bad way. linus is (unfortunately) too busy, to check every idea, so he skips them (sometimes), if they are not polished (enough for him)

* there are people he trust more, and people he does not know well enough (as a kernel developer). therefore, if some idea is programmed by developer with trust, there is better possibility to be accepted.

Symbian, the Biggest Mobile OS No One Talks About

hyartep Re:It's just not American (423 comments)

people in europe (non tech savvy) may not know "symbian" - they simply buy nokia. it's far more bigger buzzword.

Symbian, the Biggest Mobile OS No One Talks About

hyartep Re:Symbian is a goner (423 comments)

nokia has three systems:

* s40 - closed system used for "feature phones"

* symbian - smartphones for the masses - smartphone, with apps+more but being phone is one of the primary functions

* meego - mobile computers (something like "iphone functionality") - everything you can imagine - in your pocket (phone as well, but it's not primary functionality).

Symbian, the Biggest Mobile OS No One Talks About

Why develop serious applications for something that's only supported by a single manufacturer these days.

such as iphone/ios?

Nokia Trades Symbian For MeeGo In N-Series Smartphones

hyartep Re:Very pleased (184 comments)

n900 was never going to be mainstream product. that's why it was not advertised much.

it was supposed to be next step toward maemo6, which should have been 1st mainstream nokia with maemo.

things are now more complicated, because of meego and transition from maemo to meego. next device will have meego branding but technologically it will be something between maemo and meego (e.g. maemo is debian, meego is fedora, next nokia device will be meego, but based on debian).

Apple's wager

hyartep hyartep writes  |  more than 4 years ago

hyartep (1694754) writes "Apple is treating iPhone apps developers quite hard to advance its platform (as with recent changes to section 3.3.1 of SDK license agreement). The question is — will iPhone keep enough users in the future to keep developers satisfied, or will the developers leave to more comfortable platform?"

Making maps with NAVTEQ

hyartep hyartep writes  |  more than 4 years ago

hyartep (1694754) writes "If you spend a lot of time on the road, you’ve probably come across a car with a camera pod on its roof, recording everything in sight. No, not that car, another one, from NAVTEQ. Take a look at where free navigation for the world comes from."
