Scientists Study Permian Mass Extinction Event As Lesson For 21st Century

ihaveamo You think WE are dominant .. Meet lystrosaurus (235 comments)

After over 90% of all life was wiped out, for MILLIONS of years, there was only one dominant form of life. This ugly pig thing... Lystrosaurus. They were, seriously, everywhere. Very low biodiversity .. This is what happens if a single animal in the food chain is left unchecked. Let Lystrosaurus be a warning!

Ask Slashdot: What Games Are You Playing?

ihaveamo Dwarf Fortress (669 comments)

If you believe you have an IQ above your shoe size, and like open world sandbox games, I beg you to try this game. Its free. The only problem is that all games seem like two dimensional shadows after playing (and understanding) dwarf fortress. Download the lazy newbie pack to get half decent graphics and sound.

Getting Evolution In Science Textbooks For Texas Schools

ihaveamo Re:ya know... (710 comments)

Any old God can do speciation. But a TRULY awesome God? He automates it...but... an even MORE truly awesome God would be one who didn't even have to EXIST for it to be automated. Now THAT'S awesome.

How Should the Law Think About Robots?

ihaveamo Re: A race of slaves (248 comments)

Hell, even my Irobot Roomba has a random number generator to choose a random action when it hits something... So much for deterministic robots.

Creationist Bets $10k In Proposed Literal Interpretation of Genesis Debate

ihaveamo Three letters.. (1121 comments)

CMB. That's it. I love that three small letters (well, and and enter key I suppose) typed into google can debunk most of this.

But seriously, its actually quite hard to debunk that there were talking snakes/donkeys/gods etc. Its like trying to debunk an invisible pink unicorn is standing behind you.. (But how can it be invisible and pink at the same time?.. ahhh thats beyond scientific understanding!)

Doctor Who's Dalek Designer Dies At 84

ihaveamo The distinctive look and attitude.. (106 comments)

...was in part mimicking the Nazis. Extermination .... Supreme race..... and the Daleks look a bit like panzer tanks. I can imagine that 50 years ago, with WWII not such a distant memory, the Daleks would have been personally terrifying to a lot of Brits.

Ask Slashdot: What Video Games Keep You From Using Linux?

ihaveamo Before the WINEing starts.. (951 comments)

Hell, I like to make things run on WINE, that's a game in itself!, but untill Joe Sixpack can drop in DVD / Download-and-play-with-one-click, LINUX gaming will struggle. (Remember even WINDOWS gaming is too hard for a lot of people, with DX updates, various runtimes, licensing, etc,etc .. thus, IMHO, console sales)

Concept Aquatic Rover May Explore a Lake On Titan

ihaveamo Europa would be way bettter.. (47 comments)

I am still waiting for a Europa ocean-going mission. That's the best chance of finding other life in the solar system. We need some sort of easy way to melt through the ice layer, though. (Maybe slowly, though radioactivity?). I suppose that would make the probe more of a submarine than a boat though.

Belief In Hell Predicts a Country's Crime Rates Better Than Other Factors

ihaveamo Stick is better than Carrot? (471 comments)

Anyways, amazing so many people can "love" some deity when HE is holding a metaphorical gun to to their head, in the form of Hell. That ain't a deity I wanna worship. That's rape.

Australian WiFi Inventors Win US Legal Battle

ihaveamo That's not a Lawsuit..... (193 comments)

Wifi? That's nothing!. For REAL world-changing Aussie IT, look no further than Product Activation! ,
which won a massive $388 million payout (Mostly from from Microsoft). And then lost. And then won again, and then lost again, and then a sorta 25% win or something..

I mean, come on!. Imagine life WITHOUT product activation. Microsoft products just wouldn't "feel" the same. It's the core technology of their whole solution!

Wil Wheaton's New Show: Tabletop

ihaveamo Romantic Board gaming with Space Hulk. (155 comments)

On a date, I broke out the Space Hulk ... but bear with me - it's instant romance - with some good mood lighting, a candleabra dripping with wax, a few good bottles of red wine (in metal goblets of course), some good gregorian chants on the stereo. . (The candlelight is important, as it means that she can't see the terrible paint job I did on the little figurines. I'm told chicks dig artists.)

Ask Slashdot: Entry-Level Robotics Kits For Young Teenagers?

ihaveamo Root kits? (153 comments)

I read this waaay too late at night. I read it (twice) as "Entry level root kits for young teenagers".

I was going to offer my european promotional copy of Michael Jackson's 2001 single "You Rock My World". From Sony of course.

Scientists Cryo-Freeze Coral Reef

ihaveamo Too late :( (130 comments)

I live near the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It's bleached. Dead. Its one of the saddest things I have ever seen. Lots of tourists coming over asking where the "colorful" reef is, like in the brochure. I reply "oh, like in the 80's? Your 30 years too late". If you want proof of global warming / ocean acidification, look no further.

Well maybe not too late, but just in time.

850 new species found Underground in Australia

ihaveamo ihaveamo writes  |  more than 4 years ago

ihaveamo writes "Previously unknown underground habitats in Ausralia have just been found to be home to more than 850 new animal species."The scientists detailed the findings at a scientific conference on evolution and biodiversity in Darwin, Australia, which celebrated the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin and finished Sept. 28.". Yes — us Aussies have a Capital city named Darwin, after the man himself, and it was hosting a conference on evolution. The USA desperately needs a city called Dawkins."
