NASA Study: Ocean Abyss Has Not Warmed

inthealpine Time to move on... (295 comments)

The AGW argument is dead. Perhaps efforts should now go into things that 90% of the population can get behind. Clean air, water, soil and food are great places to start. Perhaps real energy solutions like a Thorium reactor (fueled by the giant radioactive ‘waste’ piles created when mining rare earth metals for solar panels and wind turbines) should get serious consideration. The amount of energy people have access to directly correlates to the standard of living.

It’s all about energy density and we need to make that next step. Holding people back will never happen so why not just move on?

Complex Systems Theorists Predict We're About One Year From Global Food Riots

inthealpine Re:Overpopulation (926 comments)

Yeah, that would go over well.
Instead of trying to control every action every individual takes why not just make them responsible? Governments need to stop subsidizing having children, amongst just about everything else. Problem solved.

Republican Platform To Include Internet Freedom Plank

inthealpine Re:Not so fast (459 comments)

Bill Clinton passed on Bin Laden after the first trade center attacks.(after 4 years you wont blame Obama, but less than a year for Bush and blame blame blame).
Obama re-signed the Patriot Act and the NDAA.
Obama has deficit spent at twice the rate of GWB.
The 2008 economic decline was from......the housing bust. Government mandating home loans be provided to people who couldn't pay them back.

There is a lot of blame for both parties, but only one place where both those parties cause most of the trouble. =====>DC

Republican Platform To Include Internet Freedom Plank

inthealpine Re:Not so fast (459 comments)

So you don't support internet freedom, language mostly taken from Libertarian Ron Paul, because of language you disagree with that is actually NOT part of the platform?

The platform is against the internet being co-opted into a central regulatory body.

Why WikiLeaks Is Worth Defending

inthealpine Re:Millions (257 comments)

Your point of view typically comes from the extreme left wing which is responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths. You have those like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Mussolini, etc., etc. who not only have war time body counts, but much of the count comes from 'peace time' genocide of undesirables in the population.

The Mathematics of 'Legitimate Rape' and Pregnancy

inthealpine Re:There are no Facts (1469 comments)

Largest stimulus in the history of mankind just wasn't big enough, or big fat old fail?

To put it in perspective the alien 'transport' device in Contact was around a trillion dollars and was a multi-country endeavor. It was the cause of much angst because of the massive price tag.

Another way to look at it is that every single family home in the US could have had a solar power system installed for a trillion dollars.

The Mathematics of 'Legitimate Rape' and Pregnancy

I understand your point, but how do you get past the part where you are ending the life of an otherwise innocent human?

The Mathematics of 'Legitimate Rape' and Pregnancy

inthealpine Re:There are no Facts (1469 comments)

Adequate social welfare structure exists. 100 million Americans are on some kind of welfare, so social 'safety nets' abound.

The Mathematics of 'Legitimate Rape' and Pregnancy

inthealpine Re:There are no Facts (1469 comments)

Some people don't think it is okay to kill another human being. Some think it's okay to kill a baby even after it's born for up to two weeks.

The argument comes down to: do both humans have rights and if so how can they co-exist?

The Mathematics of 'Legitimate Rape' and Pregnancy

inthealpine Re:There are no Facts (1469 comments)

Well conservatives generally think that you should be responsible for your own choices. There are plenty of children who are neglected or abandoned of all ages, I suppose we should dispose of them as well?

Verizon Offers High-Use Data Plans, Inadvertently Points Out Enormous Rip-Off

inthealpine Unlimited Data (1 comments)

Unlimited data was grandfathered in my plan, but Verizon decided if you upgrade to the next gen wireless you loose that. So I get unlimited use of that witch I do not use much and limited use of that which I use a lot. Bravo!

Does your boss have a hot daughter, or wife for that matter?

Make sure the daughter is of age, it might be the only good reason to go to jail, but it's still jail.

Could a Category 5 Hurricane Take Down East Coast Data Centers?

inthealpine Re:Category 5 Hurricane (214 comments)

The Katrina Bush bashing was just political BS and everyone knows it who isn't a moron. The state government was largely blamed for the lack of planning and preparation with the feds only coming off as less than helpful, but not harmful.
I wen through a nasty flood last year (as in house flooded, no power and displaced for days) and my family pulled through because we did not wait for the government to come save us.
You basically had a city full of worthless government dependent people who didn't know the first thing about being prepared and thinking ahead. Just wait for government to show up and hope your family doesn't drown.

Climate Scientists Ponder Political Activism

inthealpine inthealpine writes  |  more than 4 years ago

inthealpine (1337881) writes "Tired of climate skeptics questioning their ethics in light of the 'climate gate' email scandal, climate scientists look to fight back. A number of scientists want to set up a not-for-profit and get into the political fight. The question seems to be, is this good for the science?"

Climate E-Mails Stolen by Spies, Not a 'Hacker'

inthealpine inthealpine writes  |  more than 4 years ago

inthealpine (1337881) writes ""A very clever nerd can cause a great deal of disruption and obviously make intelligence services very nervous, but a sophisticated intelligence operation is capable of yielding the sort of results we've seen here," [David King, Britain's former chief science adviser] told The Independent. King also went on to push the idea that American lobbyists could be behind the hacking. Does anyone else think that this could easily be a lone hacker or small group of hackers with an agenda? Why does it have to be a large government entity or a well funded lobby group? I'm not a hacker by any stretch, but this totally seems like something a 'lone hacker' could be inclined to do."
