AMD Continues To Pressure NVIDIA With Lower Cost Radeon R9 270 and BF4 Bundle

jakobX Re:To those thinking of buying (142 comments)

If you compare the quality of 3d audio before vista and compare it with current games its obvious something went wrong. Sure we have a lot more CPU power but games dont use it for sound.

AMD Continues To Pressure NVIDIA With Lower Cost Radeon R9 270 and BF4 Bundle

jakobX Re:To those thinking of buying (142 comments)

TrueAudio is an interesting technology IMO. While graphics improved every year the sound is actually worse now than in the XP era. Im kinda optimistic that games will use this technology, since its pretty much the same chip as in PS4. If this was an AMD only technology then i would expect it to be used in as many titles as GPU physx is used in. Pretty much useless. But since its also in PS4 im looking forward to games with better sound.

AMD's Radeon R9 290 Delivers 290X Performance For $150 Less

jakobX Re: Are PC gamers benefiting ? (183 comments)

Im just dying to replace my 29" IPS monitor with an overpriced 23" TN monitor that only works on nvidia cards.

AMD's Radeon R9 290X Launched, Faster Than GeForce GTX 780 For Roughly $100 Less

jakobX Re:Looking good so far. (157 comments)

Never had any problems with AMD drivers and ive used their cards since radeon 8500le. Ive also had Nvidia cards in my machine and also didnt have any major problems.

Sure sometimes drivers will give you problems but to say that one company has consistently better drivers is nonsense. At the moment i have no problems with my hd7850, hd4870 and even my nvidia ION HTPC system stopped giving me problems after two years of "fun" (HDMI related).

AMD Publishes Open-Source Radeon HD 8000 Series Driver

jakobX Re:gearing up for steam on linux? (117 comments)

What influx of gamers switching to linux?

Even if all the games i own would magically work on linux i would still prefer windows. Even something like ubuntu is far from user friendly.

Driver Update Addresses Radeon Frame Latency Issues

jakobX Re:Now fix Windows 8 (108 comments)

Im not getting any crashes on my win8/AMD machine. Have you tried upgrading your motherboard BIOS? There were some problems with old BIOS versions and the 7xxx series when going to sleep mode.

Driver Update Addresses Radeon Frame Latency Issues

jakobX Re:So which graphics card should I get? (108 comments)

Only if you are running something like furmark 24/7 for the whole year. Most games will not even remotely stress the card so hard. Your card will mostly be in idle most of the time and in the case of new AMD cards they can even go to deep sleep when not in use and only burn 3W (useful for 24/7 machines such a s mine).

RIM Attracts 15,000 Apps For BlackBerry 10 In 2 Days

jakobX Re:Thankfully... (193 comments)

It works. A colleague of mine ported our android banking application to playbook in an hour and it worked. Making it work on all billion versions of android is another story :).

RIM Attracts 15,000 Apps For BlackBerry 10 In 2 Days

jakobX Re:Yes, it's worth it (193 comments)

Thats because android has free apps. Why buy a paid app if there are good free alternatives available. I like my playbook but the selection of apps is a bit pathetic. At least we can convert android apps so its all good :).

AMD Tweaking Radeon Drivers To Reduce Frame Latency Spikes

jakobX Re:Tried an AMD card recently - not impressed. (105 comments)

Sometimes you get a faulty card. It has happened to me a couple of times. Nothing to do with the chip itself. Im running a hd7850 and didnt run into any of the problems you describe.

AMD Tweaking Radeon Drivers To Reduce Frame Latency Spikes

jakobX Re:Why bother? (105 comments)

You do know that 7970 GE is faster than nvidias gtx680. Thats hardly what i would call not competing in the high end. Their CPUs on the other hand need some work :).

AMD Tweaking Radeon Drivers To Reduce Frame Latency Spikes

jakobX Re:Why bother? (105 comments)

AMD cards have better price/performance ratio and drivers have been good for many years. Both companies have occasional problems with drivers but in the end drivers from both companies are good. (only had minor fixable problems with amd and nvidia drivers so far)

Nvidia does have better marketing and more fanboys though.

AMD Tweaking Radeon Drivers To Reduce Frame Latency Spikes

jakobX Re:What Problem? (105 comments)

This is a different problem and is common to every crossfire/SLI setup. If you want to fix it you have to play with tools like radeon pro.

AMD Tweaking Radeon Drivers To Reduce Frame Latency Spikes

jakobX Re:Bullshit; OP is right. (105 comments)

You will get spikes in every card from every manufacturer. Its not like the workload never changes.Sometimes it just takes longer to render a frame.

AMD Unveils Preliminary Radeon HD 8000M Series Mobile GPU Details

jakobX Re:The most important question... (51 comments)

You are refering to techreport articles right? There might be a problem or there might not be. I certainly havent seen any micro-stuttering with my hd7850. The type of tests they do are veeeeeery easy to manipulate. You just have to select a different short scene to render if you dont like the results and voila the other card wins. Average framerates might not tell you everything but atleast they are harder to manipulate. (though techreport still has a tendency to measure much lower average FPS for AMD than competing review sites)
