UK Computing Teachers Concerned That Pupils Know More Than Them

jason777 Re:It's been going on for years (388 comments)

Ya, me too. I had an assignment where I used arrays in solving the problem. I guess the class didnt cover arrays yet, and so I failed the assignment. The teacher has one solution that she was expecting to see, and when it wasnt that, I failed. So, I was somehow supposed to guess what they wanted to see for a solution in that class based on what was taught to that point. Granted, I wasnt really following the "lectures" at all. I'm pretty sure the teacher was basically 1 week ahead of the students, learning it herself.

Ask Slashdot: Options For Cheap Home Automation?

jason777 Homeseer (189 comments)

I'm using homeseer software. Its pretty good, and they have a program called hstouch that I run on the tablets that I customized for each room. I think it was like $300 for the pro version which included hstouch. Then, I'm using zwave wireless protocol for all my lighting modules, hvac, security, blind control, etc. I found zwave to be an extremely reliable protocol. Stay away from X10.

jason777 Uh, no (65 comments)

Uh, no he didnt write a line of code. The line he wrote was:
moveForward(100);
and I'm sure someone told him what the function was called to move forward. Thats not really writing a line of code.

TrueCrypt Website Says To Switch To BitLocker

jason777 Why? (566 comments)

I didnt see anyone ask this yet. They say it is unsecure and to download an alternative. But why is it unsecure? Do they explain anywhere why they think it is unsecure?

Surge In Online Orders Overwhelms UPS Christmas Deliveries

jason777 Morons (378 comments)

What kind of idiot orders presents on dec 23 and thinks for sure it will get there? I go by dec 17 at the latest. I mean, every year UPS gets a backlog at this time, so a delay should be expected.

Come Try Out Slashdot's New Design (In Beta)

jason777 Mixed (1191 comments)

I do like the design, the top menu, and the styling. But as others have mentioned, the width doesn't scale to my full HD screen which wastes tons of space. For this type of website, that's isn't good especially when viewing the comments. So that being said, just leave it the way it is, or just update the styling to look better than the current ancient looking crappy styling.

Silent Circle Follows Lavabit By Closing Encrypted E-mail Service

jason777 startmail? (470 comments)

I don't know a lot about it, but the owner of startpage is forming startmail for private mail...probably similar to these guys. I wonder if startmail is going to face the same problem? From what I understand, the government basically comes in an puts a rack server in your rack, and the server basically listens to all the traffic, and send it back. Totally unconstitutional, and you cant deny them to do this. That's why lavabit just said no and turned their service off.

TSA Orders Searches of Valet Parked Car At Airport

jason777 Re:The joys of private property ... (453 comments)

Private property, yes. But the TSA are government employees. So, they are bound by the constitution, specifically the 4th amendment. Right?

TSA Orders Searches of Valet Parked Car At Airport

jason777 Outrageous (453 comments)

This country is out of control. We have no more 4th amendment. Pretty soon the TSA will be expanding their highway searches from commercial trucks to every passenger car. Your freedom is gone. That being said, I would never trust my car to a valet. I park it myself. You are just asking for trouble otherwise.

Intel Removes "Free" Overclocking From Standard Haswell CPUs

jason777 Re:Is it necessary these days? (339 comments)

Whats with this attitude on this article? I overclocked my 3ghz i7950 to 4.2ghz with a better cooler and a couple nights of testing. Now 2 and a half years later, the machine still performs very well. And I do a lot of development, video editing, and audio recording. I have not once had a overtemp, blue screen, crash, freeze, nothing.

Australian Police Move To Make 3D Printed Guns Illegal

jason777 Re:Semi agree (551 comments)

Why does the world need less guns? How does more good guys having guns not dissuade bad guys from committing crimes? How do laws stop the criminals from printing them? Why should anyone be denied their right to defend themselves?
