Ask Slashdot: Is It Feasible To Revive an Old Linux PC Setup?

javajawa Re:Shouldn't be a problem (176 comments)

Unlikely... the driver support just wouldn't be there - there really isn't much point to doing so.

You will, however, need to be on x86 hardware.

javajawa Shouldn't be a problem (176 comments)

You should be able to run a modern linux distro, but you may need to install some old libraries to get those games working.

JPMorgan Files Patent Application On 'Bitcoin Killer'

javajawa Re:Just like BitCoin? (292 comments)

Wire transfers are largely an oddity of the USA. Most of the rest of the world doesn't use wire transfers anyway.

Say what? I process wire transfers to Europe and Asia on a daily basis... they actually have better infrastructure for it in the rest of the world. IBAN/SWIFT

Google Glass Making Its Way Into Operating Rooms

javajawa Re:Fuck that (120 comments)

With wipes - the glasses don't touch the patient. The point of the glasses is that the surgeon does not have to touch a computer, re-scrub, then return to surgery. The glasses are voice activated allowing the surgeon to interact with the software, then resume surgery without re-scrubbing. If the surgeon were to touch the glasses, they would have to re-scrub.

NSA Planned To Discredit Radicals Based On Web-Browsing Habits

javajawa Re:Freedom of speech? (415 comments)

Oh... I'm pretty sure that ethics were thrown out the window a long time ago; only fear remains. Anyway, this isn't a Freedom of Speech issue. The items being leveraged, were not spoken. Good to see you, old friend.

NSA Planned To Discredit Radicals Based On Web-Browsing Habits

javajawa Re:Freedom of speech? (415 comments)

Sure... you're free to speak, and they're free to listen... they are then free to repeat what they've heard. This is why the right to remain silent is pretty damned nifty... and why their attempts to outlaw encryption and other instruments of privacy are so appalling.

Well... without a contract... that third party does not have copyright of the image... what business does the third party have in distributing those photos, in the first place?

German Railways To Test Anti-Graffiti Drones

javajawa Re:Anti-gravity (208 comments)

Saw it... not entirely sure if it was intentional, or not... vaguely reading the comments to see how many people are commenting on anti-gravity without reading the summary.

Really don't see how corporate tracking of employees suddenly becomes an expectation of publicly tracking an executive.

Quark-Gluon Plasma Observed At LHC

javajawa Re:As a Canadian, I like to watch... (155 comments)

TRIUMF is the name of the facility; however, I did not fail to spell anything wrong and TRIUMF is not an acronym for anything (anymore).

Quark-Gluon Plasma Observed At LHC

javajawa Re:As a Canadian, I like to watch... (155 comments)

Because researchers from TRIUMF (Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics) were involved... of course... so were researchers from Fermilab, and other institutions... but the article was submitted by a Canadian.
