State of Iowa Tells Tesla To Cancel Its Scheduled Test Drives

jaygridley Not the first time this law has come up (331 comments)

There was an incident a few years ago where the Iowa DOT refused to title a city fire truck because the company that assembled the truck (Toyne Inc in Breda, IA) was not a "licensed franchised dealer'' of the company that built the chassis (HME). http://www.messengernews.net/p...

FCC Proposal To Limit Access To 5725-5850 MHz Band

jaygridley Re:OP vs Reality (112 comments)

How do you justify running a fiber service out to those areas? The cost to shareholders just does not justify the expense of installation, to say nothing of cost of upkeep compared to the income from your customer base. Wireless is really the only financially responsible means of covering these low population areas.

FTFY.

Russia Issues Travel Warning To Its Citizens About United States and Extradition

jaygridley Re:Absolutely the case (369 comments)

Really? Guess none of them are anywhere near me.. seems I only find the Obama can do no wrong and anything wrong with the country is solely the fault of Bush or the GOP ones.

Speaking of noise what are you babbling about? I made no statement about either side other than if anything Obama extended the problem, rather than solving it.

Google Pulls Support For CDMA Devices

jaygridley So much for Droid? (272 comments)

So if you want to actually use your Android phone in the US you will be screwed since only AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM and both of them have gaping holes in their networks??

Army DNS ROOT Server Down For 18+ Hours

jaygridley Re:Fibre was cut (154 comments)

It was a fiber cut. Poor weather caused delays in getting repairs made. See: http://isc.sans.edu/diary.html?storyid=9655 Given the fact that there is more than one root server I find this a bit of a non-story. Obviously the internet continued to function as it should.

Just Where Is The Lincoln Memorial, Anyhow?

jaygridley Re:Politics aside, wtf is wrong with Google? (650 comments)

Google doesn't have that accurate a source of landmarks, so they've left them as Wiki-style editable. With such a politically charged event scheduled for tomorrow, it doesn't take that many Beck-dislikers to toy with navigation... anybody trying to find the rally with an iPhone will get the wrong directions if this is allowed to stand.

Really? Then why does the map have a little box on it with the words "Lincoln Memorial" that is not what the search returns? (Not to mention all the other various landmarks marked on the map..

Tornado Scientists Butt Heads With Storm Chasers

jaygridley Re:The pros should get a police escort. (402 comments)

It wouldn't make a difference anyway. Most people don't pull over for fire/police/ambulance anyway, I've seen it.

Tornado Scientists Butt Heads With Storm Chasers

jaygridley Re:The pros should get a police escort. (402 comments)

I suppose to some extent that would be true however "research team" isnt in the definition of emergency vehicle in most, if not all of the states they were operating in. However, seeing as how the project is now over (at least for field work) its a bit of a moot point anyway.

Tornado Scientists Butt Heads With Storm Chasers

jaygridley Re:The pros should get a police escort. (402 comments)

Unless they plan on helping with things when that tornado they're following hits a house the answer is most absolutely NOT. Some dude with a radar truck (or seven, or twelve) has no more importance than anyone else.
