Ginkgo Doesn't Improve Memory Or Cognitive Skills

Seriously though, I had a suspicion 10 years ago when I took it, I couldn't see any difference either.

So it affected your vision?

Each American Consumed 34 Gigabytes Per Day In '08

jeffshoaf Re:Massive exaggeration (245 comments)

The only complaint I have with Fox is the whole "Fair and Balanced" line. They aren't balanced, and that's okay - they should own up to it.

So, you agree that they're unbalanced?

Comcast to Buy 51% of NBC, GE Goes After 49%

jeffshoaf Re:whom the gods would destroy they first make mad (258 comments)

All mainstream media outlets are giant dinosaurs too stupid to realize they're already dead. There's virtually nothing good on television anyway; ad revenues are plummeting as consumers have no more money to spend, and anybody savvy just uses BitTorrent anyway.

So, where will the stuff on BitTorrent come from once the dinosaurs realize they're dead because the ad revenues are gone and stop producing content?

Cell Phones Don't Increase Chances of Brain Cancer

jeffshoaf Second-hand... (320 comments)

Yeah, but what about second-hand cell phone usage? If the person in the room with you or in the car with you is using a cell phone, does it increase your chance of brain tumors?

OK, OK, I'm not totally serious with this (it's more a riff on the whole second-hand smoke issue), but still...

Should You Be Paid For Being On Call?

jeffshoaf Contract or support agreement should specify (735 comments)

Since he's an independant webmaster, he should have a contract or support agreement with his clients and all of that should be spelled out so that everyone knows what to expect - if the contract says he's available 40 hours a week within specific hours, then that's when he should be available. If his clients want more support than that, then the contract or agreement should specify what that additional support costs.

Support requirements really aren't given the priority they need... When my boss came to me to get my opinion on trying to commercialize some of the apps I had developed for internal use, my first question was "How are we going to provide support?" She didn't have an answer and the apps weren't commercialized.

Do You Provide Tech Support To Friends and Family?

jeffshoaf I ask 'em to research a bit first... (606 comments)

I try to encourage them to at least look at the help files and/or research a bit before asking me, but they won't - I guess they find it easier to call me. I've even explained to them that by finding the answer themselves, they'll have a better understanding and maybe even learn something else useful, but to no avail. My aunt even called me a few weeks ago to ask me a question about Solitaire...

The LHC, the Higgs Boson, and Fate

jeffshoaf Re:Could happen (691 comments)

Depending on how you reconcile the two, you may not get an actual black hole. (You will get something that behaves quite similarly, but not exactly the same.)

A really, really dark brown hole?

Hmmm... Maybe I need to change my sig for this post!

At What Temperature (F) Do You Prefer Your Nerd Cave?

jeffshoaf Re:celsius (1233 comments)

0 Fahrenheit is based on colder than crap, 100 being hotter than crap.

That's a bit arbitrary - I find that the temperture of crap varies quite a bit based on the ambient temperture and the length of time since it's been crapped.
