GM Sees a Market For $5/Day Dedicated In-Car Internet

jk379 $150 MRC for hotspot that doesn't travel with you? (216 comments)

I just don't see the cost working out. On top of that if you have the car for 10-20 years it's going to be the same as having an old 8 track. Car NAV systems don't seem to age well, I don't see this keeping up with the times. 5G will be out before too much longer.

Massachusetts Plans To Keep Track of Where Your Car Has Been

jk379 Re:That could be very helpful. (521 comments)

That might be the case but the data doesn't need to be kept for very long. If the computer scanner ID's a car that shouldn't be on the road save just that section of video everything else doesn't need to be stored for very long.

Last Available IPv4 Blocks Allocated

jk379 At least one more Class A /8 Block is free... (312 comments)

UBM just gave back the 45.0.0.0/8 block . It's not a small block and it's available, only 256 of these blocks exists and once you pull out the 0.0.0.0, 127.0.0.0/8, 255.255.255.255 and multi-cast blocks this return counts. What other blocks have been returned and aren't counted as free?

A Blue-Sky Idea For the USPS — Postal Trucks As Sensors

jk379 Re:Stop daily service to save money (252 comments)

Carriers only work 5 days a week but the route is currently covered 6 days a week. Drop a day a week and that would be quick way to save some $$'s.

Rumor — AT&T Losing iPhone Exclusivity Next Week

jk379 Re:Not really. (353 comments)

My crackberry is on the AT&T network and only supports up to EDGE. I have issues with tower to tower hand off in a number of places. I know where the tower I should be switching to as I drive toward it and my calls regularly drop in this area as soon as the call drops I go back to full bars and I can redial and restart my conversion.

How Can I Contribute To Open Source?

jk379 Pick a great project and sponsor work. (332 comments)

Pick a project like bacula (best backup software made to date). Use it adopt it spread the word. After that you can support the project, they have a bunch of items on the to do list ( http://www.bacula.org/misc/Vote-2009.html ). If one of the items would help your work, sponsoring project would be a way to help open source software. -Jason

Legal War For WA State Sunshine Law

jk379 Re:The Law of Unintended Consequences (1364 comments)

I am sorry but your off base on the tax issue:
'A guy and girl who are just living together shouldn't feel pressured to get "married" just to reduce their taxes. Even when married they should still pay the same tax as when they were two singles.'

Being married you pay more in taxes, than two single people. We need to get rid of the marriage tax and make 1+1=2.

Can the Auto Industry Retool Itself To Build Rails?

jk379 Re:Move from cars to rail, it's not going to happe (897 comments)

It may be worth looking at google, as they don't have the slant.

The trains seem to be of the quality of my old GMC.

When I was on the train we were sharing the track with a non high speed train. To start the delay. We were stalled for hours not going anyplace while they worked on "things". Communication wasn't forthcoming. Work still had to pay for the Acela ticket, as a refund nor a discount were provided.

Can the Auto Industry Retool Itself To Build Rails?

jk379 Move from cars to rail, it's not going to happen. (897 comments)

Will have to find something better than Amtrack to make that happen. After my 9 hour train ride from NYC to Boston I won't be using the acela "express" ever again. I know it is a sample of one trip, but in the last 7 years when I have been regularly fling or driving from Boston to NY and back I never had such a bad trip.

The day that I can't have my car is the day I find a new place to live.
