On Forgetting the Facts: Questions From the EU For Google, Other Search Engines

just_a_monkey Re:Institutional hypocrisy (183 comments)

The EU regulators don't want to appear as "censors" (with the unsavory connotation that the word carries in a presumably democratic environment)...

That is a solved problem. Call it "filtering" instead and not only will The Public not object but they will demand it. To protect the children.

New Digital Currency Bases Value On Reputation

just_a_monkey Re:Trade is so BORING. (100 comments)

I think the problem rather is what to do if what I consider me "need" differs from what the Zentralkomite says I "need". Or if what I want to produce differs from what Zentral has decided I shall produce.

Normal Humans Effectively Excluded From Developing Software

just_a_monkey Re:Cry Me A River (608 comments)

The problem is that "accessible" usually also means "nerfed" and "limited in scope" and "very annoying to the power user".

Maybe not the initial cost, but who pays for maintenance and repairs? And maintenance and repairs ten years from now? And replacements, when they start breaking in a few months?

What To Do If Police Try To Search Your Phone Without a Warrant

just_a_monkey Re:Be polite (286 comments)

On one hand, I specifically said that he did not have my permission to enter my house, on the other, since he knocked on my door, he'd get a meal out of me.

Make the meal (or order a pizza if you're not allowed to leave) and bring it to him on the porch?
