When Antivirus Scammers Call the Wrong Guy

kammat Re:Question- How did scammers do this? (473 comments)

Most landlines won't disconnect until the sender hangs up. I learned this beauty last election cycle when robocampaigns would call and *not*fucking*drop*the*line* after I hung up right away. Two minutes later I picked back up and they were still going.

Legal Tender? Maybe Not, Says Louisiana Law

kammat Interesting (655 comments)

While cash can or cannot be accepted for transactions based on merchant preferences, is it allowable for a state to regulate that? Are there any federal regulations or others that may disallow this?

Felt the desk moving, thought it was a truck outside again. When it didn't stop after a second we were all looking around puzzled. Hoping everything at home is okay.

Civilization V To Use Steamworks

kammat Re:How long will it last (295 comments)

but I won't even contemplate buying a game with DRM because I just don't trust that I'd be able to play it long after it stops being the hit new thing.

You do know Valve has promised to patch around Steam authentication if the shit ever does hit the fan?

kammat The Penny Arcade-Strawberry Shortcake comic? (286 comments)

Wonder if this might relate to PA using Strawberry Shortcake in a parody of the style of games American McGee would make.

US Government Using PS3s To Break Encryption

kammat I see a trend here (570 comments)

The PS2 was restricted for export because people thought Saddam would use them to build missile guidance units. We're using the PS3 to crack encryption. I can't wait to see what uses they'll think up for the Playstation 4. Nuclear simulation?

San Francisco Free Wi-Fi Plan Fails

kammat Philadelphia Contract? (117 comments)

I wonder if this will affect Philadelphia also. We've been receiving advertisements in the mail announcing Earthlink as Philly's citywide wi-fi provider, but with Chicago and San Fran now stopped, and San Fran not seen as profitable, I find it hard to imagine that the Philadelphia city area will be as viable.
