Google May Limit Free News Access

kars Re:Frist Psot! (236 comments)

Well, that's the other side of the coin; if I'm willing to pay for my news, will I finally be rid of all the ads? I think not.

In Trial, Kindles Disappointing University Users

kars Plastic Logic (247 comments)

I'm hoping the E-reader from Plastic Logic ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_Logic ) will be a great improvement. Its display is said to be A4-sized, which would give it a diagonal of a little over 14". The biggest problem with most readers still seems to be the software, though. Either it's chock-full of DRM, or it's seriously lacking in features. Hopefully this one'll be different.

Favorite text editor?

kars Re:NEdit (1131 comments)

nedit rocks! Unfortunately I do my work almost exclusively in Windows nowadays, and running it in Cygwin feels clunky at best. What I love and miss most about nedit is the command-line filter: You highlight a few lines, hit Ctrl-R, and enter a shell phrase. The highlighted text becomes the standard input for the command, and is replaced with the command's stdout. Plain and simple. I can then use any and all command-line tools and shell scripts to process my code. I know vim does this too, but the visual mode feels a tad clunky to me. nedit just made it so easy. I wish more editors supported that feature so elegantly.

How Do You Manage Your SD Card Library?

kars Supersize it (485 comments)

What's all this talk about 1 GB or 2 GB SD cards? Come on, 16 GB cards are available for as little as 32 euros, and the 32 GB cards ~100 euros. Buying a dozen of 16 GB SD cards costs less than 400 euros. Surely a professional could cough up that amount.

Acer has a rather nice 26" LCD monitor. It's astounding how quickly you get used to it; even a 22" monitor seems small now.
