Storing Hydrogen At Room Temperature

kmac06 Re:You're wrong (152 comments)

The *external* part of the fuel cell should run much cooler, but the internal part may need to be quite hot, in order to work at high efficiency.

Storing Hydrogen At Room Temperature

kmac06 Re:You're wrong (152 comments)

A fuel cell will create less heat as a by-product, but that doesn't mean the parts of the engine are running at a cooler temperature (e.g., you could have a very hot, but very well insulated engine that releases very little heat).

Gov't Funded Electric Car Company Goes Out of Business

kmac06 Re:half million? (195 comments)

Money is the abstraction of human effort. The point isn't who prints it or how much of it there is, the point is the hard work it represents, whether that work is pouring concrete or managing a hedge fund. To say that it doesn't really belong to individuals, but rather the government, is to say the fruits of their own labor does not belong to the individual, but rather to the collective. Sounds pretty communist to be.

Gov't Funded Electric Car Company Goes Out of Business

kmac06 Re:half million? (195 comments)

But I'd rather fund a new startup that fails, rather than fund the good-ol boy network that siphons money off the top to fund their retirement account.

Or they could refrain from confiscating people's hard earned money at gunpoint to hand out to favored group, whether it's the good-ol boy network or some green nonsense.

Phone Customers Pay $2B Yearly In Bogus Fees

kmac06 Scary quote (220 comments)

Wow, talk about a terrifying thing for a prominent senator to say:

It's time for us to take a new look at this problem and find a way to solve it once and for all.

New Scottish Wave Energy Generator Unveiled

kmac06 Re:That's nice... (244 comments)

To everyone saying "there's always waves!", see this quote FTA:

There are often waves when there is no wind

So, there's also often not.

New Scottish Wave Energy Generator Unveiled

kmac06 That's nice... (244 comments)

What's the cost? Since it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the press release, er, article, I assume it's still absurdly expensive.

Also, I still want to know what happens when the wind stops blowing, the sun stops shining, or waves stop coming.

US Supreme Court: Video Games Qualify For First Amendment

kmac06 Re:Interesting 7-2 division (458 comments)

and the court is generally bound to prior rulings unless overturned by new legislation.

Or the court overturns itself, which it usually reluctant to do, but certainly can be done.

If You're Working For Stock, Read the Fine Print

kmac06 Re:Working for stock options (374 comments)

In all likelihood, your lawyer would not have advised you about the possible implications of that clause since it is simply something that is not done.

IANAL, but that sounds like the sort of thing that would be legal malpractice.

Amazon's Cloud Is Full of Holes

kmac06 Re:Known issue (66 comments)

Sounds like this issue became known because of these guys:

Once the problem was evident, Schneider said they contacted Amazon Web Services at the end of April. Amazon acted in a professional way, the researchers said, by notifying those account holders of the security issues.

So it certainly was an issue until they looked into it (and still is an issue if some fraction of their users are too lazy to fix it).

Military Drone Attacks Are Not 'Hostile'

kmac06 Re:Of Course Drone Attacks Are Hostile (892 comments)

A claim that the US is more of a terrorist organization than Al Qaeda, modded up to plus 5. What liberal bias on /.? (Incidentally, I'd be ashamed to be a liberal, with this kind of position being mainstream enough to warrant community praise through this moderation.)

One-Way Sound Walls Proven Possible

kmac06 Re:Wave diode applicable to light? (177 comments)

There is such a thing for light, an optical (or Faraday) isolator, which uses the Faraday effect. It relies on the fact that light is a transverse wave, not longitudinal, so it wouldn't work for sound. Note that because of the large magnetic field required, most optical isolators only have an aperture of a few millimeters (or less), so it would be impractical to build a "one-way" mirror of appreciable size out of it.

Draft Proposal Would Create Agency To Tax Cars By the Mile

kmac06 Re:Bad. (932 comments)

The federal gas tax has historically been about right, or a bit more, than enough to pay for the highway system. So the current gas tax is the proper gas tax.

Osama Bin Laden Reported Dead, Body In US Hands

kmac06 Re:So much for a fair trial. (1855 comments)

To give a semi-serious response to your not-at-all-serious post:

You don't get a presumption of innocence in war. Or a trial of your peers. You find a desperate way to surrender, or you get a bullet in a vital organ. The military's job is to kill people and break things. If a so-ridiculously-below-contempt-scumbag like bin laden gets a bullet, I don't think you'll see too many people here crying tears. That is one objective tax dollar's fulfilled successfully.

If you disagree, US citizen or not...well, fuck you.

Osama Bin Laden Reported Dead, Body In US Hands

kmac06 Re:It is helpful too (1855 comments)

It shows that if you are the kind of asshole that stands against civilization, that just wants to kill and create havoc, you'll be tracked down and dealt with.

That's all well and good, but how do you explain the past nine years? It's not like the people hiding him didn't know what was going on.

Face the truth. There were dozens, hundreds, THOUSANDS of people, who knew where Bin Laden was. I could dance around the common factor, but quite simply it is that they, and he, are (*ahem*...were) muslim.

Nope. I understand Internet sarcasm, etc. This is too far down to be modded up. My entire respect for this community has had some serious testing recently...maybe it's time to move on.
