Unpopular Programming Languages That Are Still Lucrative

lasermike026 Re:COBOL (380 comments)

COBOL is great and prolific programming language. COBOL programms will be running long after we are dead. I almost wish I saw more COBOL on Linux. Designed by Grace Hopper she made it so average people with limited CS knowledge could get work done. It's about a sexy as Mom's minivan but it brings the groceries home.

Eye Problems From Space Affect At Least 21 NASA Astronauts

lasermike026 Faster engines might help (109 comments)

Better launch systems and faster engines might help. The less time in microgravity, the less damage.(?) That fact we use chemical rockets to get into space and maneuver seems kind of antique.

Choose Your Side On the Linux Divide

lasermike026 systemd doesn't play well with others. (826 comments)

systemd doesn't play well with others and it's an architectural abomination. Not to mention that systemd folks have the reputation of not playing well with others. It does things that admins and engineers just don't want their systems to do. Hmmm... I don't like systemd and it does things I do not like... Well F!@#$ that!

If SysV isn't enough we need to start coding something new.

How Drones Entered the FBI's Spying Toolkit

lasermike026 No. Drones are military weapons. (39 comments)

Drones are military weapons and the FBI is a civilian organization. No civilian organization should have access to military style weapons, uniforms, or equipment.

SEC Chair On HFT: 'The Markets Are Not Rigged'

lasermike026 Wall St. is having a laugh this morning. (303 comments)

No one on Wall St, except for the willingly deluded, believes that the markets are not rigged. Ever strategy takes into the account how the market is rigged and works to deal with it. You're either a whale (those that rigged the market) or remora (those work to siphon some value from the whales).

Computing a Winner, Fusion a Loser In US Science Budget

lasermike026 Cracking crypto and giving it to Exxon. (196 comments)

And the conversation goes something like this:

"We must make sure those little shits have no private communication and Exxon dominates energy production. If those dirty unwashed masses where every to gain political control and self sufficiency it would be the end for all of us."

Insight On FBI Hacking Ops

lasermike026 Warrant? No. (137 comments)

Warrant? No. Fire them yesterday.

"Even though investigators suspected that Mo was in Iran, the uncertainty around his identity and location complicated the case. Had he turned out to be a U.S. citizen or a foreigner living within the country, a search conducted without a warrant could have jeopardized his prosecution."

Snowden Used Social Engineering To Get Classified Documents

lasermike026 Is this story true? (276 comments)

Is this story true? I have no reason to believe this at all. Admins don't need users passwords. Admins "own" the systems that they work on and can become any user they want to be without passwords.

The NSA lies. If we are to believe anything that comes out of that agency they better have hard evidence verified by the third source if one exists. This is a claim, nothing else.

Microsoft Donates Windows 8.1 To Nonprofit Organizations

lasermike026 Windows 8.x is horrible! (224 comments)

I wouldn't use it if it was free. Windows 8.x is the most horrible operating system I have ever experienced. I can't think of a worse OS. If this doesn't end the Windows OS I don't know what will. It was so frustrating I returned the laptop. The replacement system will be a Mac and not because it was my first choice. It will be a Mac because Windows 8.x is unusable.
