Pentagon Unveils Plan For Military's Response To Climate Change

lesincompetent SubjectsInCommentsAreStupid (228 comments)

If i recall correctly, similar reasoning was adopted by Mr. Homer J. Simpson while addressing his car's engine issue as he proceeded to string a strip of duct tape over the blinking warning light.

Ask Slashdot: Why Can't Google Block Spam In Gmail?

lesincompetent SubjectsInCommentsAreStupid (265 comments)

I have a rather trivial gmail nickname. I have 3 mails inside the spam folder and of course none in my inbox. Either i've been extremely conservative in publicizing my address or you are especially bad at it.

FBI Says It Will Hire No One Who Lies About Illegal Downloading

lesincompetent Re:Don't want financial troubles (580 comments)

"Susceptibility to bribes"? I agree but at the same time i can't help but notice that this comes from the same system that legalized bribery.
If you're important enough, of course.

Your habitats are fine and dandy but how do you bring thousands of them on Mars (+ extras of course)?

Elon Musk: We Must Put a Million People On Mars To Safeguard Humanity

lesincompetent Re:SubjectsInCommentsAreStupid (549 comments)

I do realize the time scale and i agree about the need of having a "backup humanity". I'd go as far as having colonies way outside the solar system too. Though i don't think these colony can rely on confined habitats. I don't think they can be self-sustaining. Too many things will go wrong. At most they can be good up to a thousand years (very optimistically speaking) but after that you're gonna need a proper planet to thrive, especially if we're talking millions of people.

Are the World's Religions Ready For ET?

lesincompetent Re:Islam and Math / Science (534 comments)

I'm not denying religious influence, of course. The dark ages were such a long period of technological and scientific advancements. Then came something else.

China Worried About Terrorist Pigeons

I don't want to break my comment up to fill that stupid space and since you cannot leave it empty at least i entertain myself in "protesting" that way.

Did we abandon terraforming? I know it takes time but it takes away many problems.

Are the World's Religions Ready For ET?

lesincompetent Re:Islam and Math / Science (534 comments)

We should thank secular values for keeping religion in check and forcing its reformation. BTW islam needs a deep reformation too ASAP if you didn't notice.

They're products of the same book. On what grounds can you shun them? I mean they're just another (albeit extremist) version of the same old story.

Scientists Seen As Competent But Not Trusted By Americans

lesincompetent Re:SubjectsInCommentsAreStupid (460 comments)

No man it was a case of if you're unable to predict an earthquake *will* occur you can't say it *will not*. I was there at the time (well... not really THERE cause i was pretty much convinced that it would have occured, as it did, so i hauled ass out of there).

You have to discredit facts (and who tells them) before you can do that.

Has the local browser cache become useless?

lesincompetent lesincompetent writes  |  about a year and a half ago

lesincompetent (2836253) writes "Think about it. In this age of high end hardware and relatively high bandwidth, storing things on a device many orders of magnitude slower than any other is something we should get rid of. Even for static content: is it really worth the disk I\O effort? How much page loading time am i saving? Not to mention the fact that browser caches are among the first causes of system littering. It's been many years now since the last time i had a browser with disk caching enabled on any of my systems (besides chrome, unfortunately, because you can't deactivate it.)"
