Japan's Alleged Death Threat-Making, Cat-Hacking Programmer Says He's Innocent

lordmetroid Re:If he's really innocent he should confess (69 comments)

There was an organization, I believe it was Lawyers without border, did an analysis of the high conviction rates in Japan and they found that it was mostly because the prosecutors only took cases to court in which they were absolutely sure they had enough evidence for a conviction.

However, after watching the dramatized documentary http://www.imdb.com/title/tt07... a documentary of the the systemic faults of the Japanese court system which is convicting innocent people, I have some doubts that it is actually the reality rather than the courts convicting innocent people.

Solid State Quantum Computer Finds 15=3x5 — 48% of the Time

lordmetroid Re:Maths (262 comments)

Why is this anonymous coward moderated funny. The anonymous should be moderated insightful cause it is correct that for very large number of two. 2+2=5. Let me demonstrate:

By writing 2+2=5, we merely have one significant digit of precision. It is very possible that the 2s are for example 2.4 or 2.1 or whatever number which would be rounded down to 2 when written with a one significant digit.

Imagine that the twos are actually 2.4999... which when added together would be 4.999... As we are only have a single digit of precision we are forces to round that to 5. Hence we have proved that 2+2=5 for very large numbers of 2.

Has the Command Line Outstayed Its Welcome?

The average user can keep windows while I run the superior operating system. I am glad the average user do not want to run my preferred Linux distro.

Alright, I'll use UZBL from here on. The twats at Mozilla obviously doesn't care for their Linux users anymore so now I am turning my back to them as well.

Photographers, You're Being Replaced By Software

lordmetroid Re:CGI wishes (282 comments)

Replacing photographers are already being done. I know from friends of mine who work in IKEA PR-department as 3D-artists, that they have been constructing scenes instead of photographing for least the past 3 years as they have been employed at IKEA. Arranging furniture, decorating, photographing the lot and then retouching it takes longer than just doing it in 3D software from scratch.

These masses you are talking about, you probably knew them, they are you, me and our present and past friends. The myth of the sheeple is highly over exagerated.

Doesn't really matter, small projects without any money do not have any money to enforce a GPL license anyhow.

US Judge Say Kim Dotcom May Never Be Tried or Extradited

lordmetroid Re:Trial and extradition were never the goal (345 comments)

In times like these, it is important to ask. For what do you want the economy? Is the continued perpetuance and growth of the economy the goal? I do not see it as such, I believe the goal of the economy is to provide a better life for people and in order to do that any part of the economy that is rotten, absurd and wicked should be cut off and left to wither.

Now when we have everything we could wish for, perhaps it is time to reconsider what could make ones life better, could it perhaps be more materialistic wealth or could it perhaps be more time to enjoy the company of ones peer, to socialize and to enjoy art and culture? Perhaps it is shorter workdays, shorter workweek.

Ask Slashdot: Finding an IT Job Without a Computer-Oriented Undergraduate Degree?

lordmetroid Almost impossible (504 comments)

I have studied computer science but never finished a degree. I am a skilled programmer and the companies do want to interview me but they never care to hire me for some stupid reason or another.

Probably the best bet is to try to start your own enterprise.

Cheap Solar Panels Made With An Ion Cannon

lordmetroid Re:Hegemony, schmegemony (395 comments)

I also like the idea of storing excess energy by another molecule. The problem with hydrodgen is that it is a gas and hence is rather volumoues and being the smallest possible molecule one can think of, hydrogen tend to be rather difficult to contain in any container as it leaks catastrophically through seemingly solid walls. I would prefer creating ethanol from the carbondioxid in the air and water.

US Appeals Court Upholds Suspect's Right To Refuse Decryption

lordmetroid Re:Only when they don't already know? (358 comments)

Without a warrant the law-enforcers are not permitted to do a search, getting a warrant permits them to do so. Usually with a search warrant for a house that means they either ask the owner to cooperate and open the door but if the owner is not cooperative, they will simply break the door. The same principle should logically be applied to search warrant for a hard-drive. Though I would like to see the law enforcers try to break into the hard-drive. :)
