Apple Transitions Hardware Leadership

magnusrex1280 Re:Wait (108 comments)

Only people who don't know anything about Apple think that's true. Not even Apple users think Jobs did everything on his own. Mostly Jobs had sporatic inspirations or instincts that turned out to be spot on, and had some pitfalls. No one with braincells thinks he did everything.

Navy May Use Mine-Detecting Dolphins In the Straight of Hormuz

magnusrex1280 Re:Dolphins ... right. (204 comments)

Given how intelligent dolphins are, and how much technology and money it would take to replicate the functions and capabilities of a living creature, I don't think your view plays out. You talk about how expensive it would be to train dolphins, but it would be many more times expensive to use hardware instead.

Penguin Yanking Kindle Books From Libraries

magnusrex1280 Re:Content vs business model (206 comments)

Content is a thing that exists, whether you have a business model or not. Business model is the system or method you use to make money from a product or service, in this case the product/service is e-reader content.

Essex Police Arrest Man Over Blackberry Water Fight Plan

magnusrex1280 huh? (158 comments)

I'm confused. They say they're monitoring social networking sites for unlawful activity, but what exactly is unlawful about a water fight? They're defeating their own logic with their statements.

34% of iPhone Owners Think the 4 Is 4G

magnusrex1280 Re:In other news (306 comments)

Sounds like you're missing his point entirely. He's not even remotely saying that knowing the processor is important. He's saying the kinds of people who do more research when buying a device (people who know what processor is inside is one way of qualifying that) are less likely to be confused about something utterly basic like knowing the difference between an iPhone 4 and a phone with 4G. People who realize a basic truth, knowing the details helps you make better choices and achieve better results, are going to have the curious mind and appreciation for facts and information to know that "phone version 4" and "a phone with 4G service" aren't the same thing. Now I don't necessarily agree with him saying that Android users are smarter than iPhone users, but there are huge chunks of people who buy the Apple product only because it's more expensive and because they're hungry to be recognized as owning the "cool" or "luxury" brand. Me, I don't give a shit what other people think about my phone. I had an iPhone 3G for a while, now use a Galaxy S, but will probably get an iPhone 5 simply because Android is too glitchy and buggy and immature of a platform to run like it should. It's too busy stumbling over itself to work properly.

34% of iPhone Owners Think the 4 Is 4G

magnusrex1280 Re:In other news (306 comments)

Because a lot of that "crap" multiplies the functionality of the device. You may chose to only use yours as a phone, but that doesn't mean any other functionality is useless or unwanted by other users of the platform.

Riiight, because Geohot is the only one who thinks it's great that someone got hired to do what they love. Nope.

Geohot Joins Facebook As Product Developer

magnusrex1280 Re:Wait a minute... (108 comments)

He probably looks like the guy in the Geohot video that he released. And probably has the same first and last name as Geohot. And if that stuff wasn't enough, he could always show them some documentation from getting his socks sued off by Sony.

Ask Slashdot: Compensating Technical People For Contributing to Sales?

magnusrex1280 Re:It doesn't work (331 comments)

You're implying a distinction when there isn't one. Office politics and making connections requires social skills, and when you develop social skills and use them instinctively, you will develop connections and probably get involved in office politics whether you want to or not.

Square Enix Facing Big Losses For 2010

magnusrex1280 Re:Tomb Raider (210 comments)

My girlfriend LOVES the Tomb Raider games, in spite of the T&A. She loves the mythological aspects combined with the platforming/puzzle gameplay. Tomb Raider Underworld was so freaking buggy though, she gave up on it several times over the course of a year.

Mac Users More Liberal Than Windows Users

magnusrex1280 Re:CNN story (638 comments)

Agreed. Once again, as seems to be the norm everywhere I look, people are conflating "what I like" with "caring what other people think about me and my stuff." The two aren't the same, and except for some robotic, moronic folks that exist in our world, we don't decide we like something just because of its influence on what other people think about is. I'm always butting heads with certain of my friends who buy into the whole "Apple products are just for people who want to look cool" mentality. They all know I'm a knowledgable person, but for some reason they ignore me when I explain that most Mac users buy them for the functionality and other aspects of hardware/software...just like with any other product.

Mac Users More Liberal Than Windows Users

magnusrex1280 Re:No Springtime for Hitler (638 comments)

In many areas in the U.S., while still considered a "crime," smoking pot isn't considered a big enough crime for the authorities to give a shit about. I'm sure there's a more relevant crime you could use when illustrating white people commit some type of crime more than black folks.

Mac Users More Liberal Than Windows Users

magnusrex1280 Re:No Springtime for Hitler (638 comments)

"Urban doesn't mean black even then, unless someone doesn't speak English. The formal definition applies." Oh? I've heard lots of people say it, and that's what they mean...they mean "black people" they just can't say it. You and I know the formal definition is the one that should alway be used, but You saying "urban doesn't mean black even then" doesn't magically make your statement true. That's *exactly* what "urban" means, when they're using it in that way.
