Time Warner Deal Is How Comcast Will Fight Cord Cutters

midifarm Come on Congress (424 comments)

Time to reregulate telecommunications. Private enterprise has essentially left us Comcast as a sole "choice" in large cities for cable/ internet and Direct TV as a satellite provider. Competition is gone and monopolies are born. So much for a free market.

Researchers Use Electroconvulsive Therapy To Disrupt Recall of Nasty Events

midifarm That's Shocking! (96 comments)

OK not really. I knew someone with severe PTSD and after going through electroshock they were much better. They were able to be happy once again. While it may seem barbaric and extreme, think about what kind of extreme pain got them there in the first place.

Snowden Nominated For Freedom of Thought Prize

midifarm Re:Ian Flemming should get... (212 comments)

Whatever you'd like to believe the Patriot Act, which affected many old laws, made everything that the NSA legal. Whether it is constitutional or not is irrelevant because it was never ruled on by the SCOTUS. To think that every packet that you've sent for the past 12 years hasn't been filtered in some way by some federal legal authority is naive. I can distinguish between Hollywood and the things that are happening around that. Art reflects reality. I suggest you read the Patriot Act and what is and what is not still in effect. You'd be surprised how far reaching it is. The Constitution cannot protect you from a law that alters it and hasn't been challenged. There are things SCOTUS is afraid to touch and the PA was one of them.

A lifetime achievement award for exposing the existence of spies. Didn't anyone see the Bourne movies? Black Briar anyone? This guy didn't expose anything.

Bill Gates Seeking Patent To Make Shakespeare Less Boring

midifarm Lost in Translation (338 comments)

What's lost here is the poetry. You don't read Shakespeare simply for the story, you read it for the eloquence of the writer. Cyrano de Bergerac would be whittled down to Roxanne. This is a bad idea. Why are we always trying to dumb down everything? Let him make the product and let it fail, but don't give him a patent.

Maine Senator Wants Independent Study of TSA's Body Scanners

midifarm Illegal search? (335 comments)

The answer is simply no. Since the implement of the new scanners and security measures, the skies aren't any safer. They are about the same except that you have potentially more humiliated and angry flying citizens. For international flights and for foreign nationals, I can totally see higher level security measures. For American citizens flying within our borders, I view it as an invasion of privacy, infringement of my rights as a citizen and totally unnecessary.

US Judge Rules Defendant Can Be Forced To Decrypt Hard Drive

midifarm Re no 5th? (1047 comments)

Burden of proof in upon the state. The 5th Amendment protects you from having to testify against yourself which would include giving any information like a password or any thoughts in your head. This should be clear cut and the Circuit Ct judge should really rethink his position (as a US judge). The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land. The 5th protects us from ourselves, as do our lawyers. Shame on this judge for posing this dilemma.
