HardOCP Spends 30 Days With Vista

mjmalone Does Vista do anything right? (662 comments)

Is there anything that Vista does right? It's not just that it's more resource intensive, and less stable than XP - it's also less usable. Check out this report, vista is less intuitive, has higher menu latency, and has more "friction" than XP/OS X. This is not just about the OS being "pretty." For a product that is used every day by millions of people this will substantially impact productivity.

Interview with Leah Culver: The Making of Pownce

mjmalone mjmalone writes  |  more than 7 years ago

mjmalone (677326) writes "Pownce, web wunderkind Kevin Rose's latest online venture, is "a way to send stuff to your friends." The site held up fairly well to a barrage of traffic after its launch, which made me wonder what makes it tick. Lead developer Leah Culver was kind enough to answer some questions via email. Pownce is built on a variation of the LAMP stack: Debian Linux, Apache, MySQL, and Python. But the site uses a number of less mainstream technologies (e.g., Django, Perlbal, and Amazon S3) to speed up development, improve performance, and reduce costs."
