Texas Student Attends School As a Robot

moeluv Re:"A chance at a better education"? (218 comments)

I was thinking the same thing. If they are going to allow him a telepresence why not do it in a state with a decent education system. One not becoming dominated by people wanting to teach Creationism in a biology class.

Asus, Gigabyte To Replace All Sandy Bridge Boards

moeluv Re:How do you tell the difference... (180 comments)

Gigabyte made the list of MB manufacturers I pass over, them and ASRock will never find their way into another build I do. I gave up on Gigabyte after trying 2 boards in succession and having the same boot issues with both.

Facebook-Deprived Man Sues For $500K

moeluv Re:Yeah, yeah, private site and all that (259 comments)

Well yeah great but that is a business page not your personal FB page. I mentioned using it to promote business if you read the post, and you can create all the seperate pages you like for businesses.

Facebook-Deprived Man Sues For $500K

moeluv Re:Yeah, yeah, private site and all that (259 comments)

Really, I have to know what business do you work in that facebook is a necessity? I have friends in a prett wide range of industries and I've never even heard any of them mention anything of that sort. We do use it to create fb pages to promote small businesses we collaberated in but required for an employee?

Malaysia Releases Genetically Modified Mosquitoes

moeluv Question (140 comments)

I won't go into whether or not releasing gm organisms into the environment is a good idea, I'll leave that up to people better educated in genetics. I would have to ask the question though, if these mosquitos have a shortned life span wouldn't it reduce the chance that they would have an opportunity to breed? Might it not have been more effective to introduce a gene that caused all male offspring to slow and inhibit breeding?

Cybercriminals Shifting Focus To Non-Windows OSes

moeluv Re:Thank God.... (265 comments)

While we are trading anecdotes...
I own a duplex and live on one side a friend and his family on the other. I do all the pc maintenance. There are 4 windows and 2 linux boxes in the house total. None of them has ever had an issue with a virus. Security software and informed users are key. Even the kids in our house know better than to install untrusted programs. Educate your users man best you can it helps.

Android Trojan Found, Spreading From Chinese App Stores

moeluv Re:Punch Yourself in The Genitals ?: (277 comments)

THIS, several time over.

But be careful you are advocating for personal responsibility there are some on slashdot who would think you elitist for spouting such things :)

Android Trojan Found, Spreading From Chinese App Stores

moeluv Re:Anti-malware? (277 comments)

honestly i haven't had any issues with malware on my android phone. I did install the Lookout app that has anti-virus but I installed it more for the data back up and ability to locate the phone via website if it is stolen. IMO Anti-malware software is generally a good idea on any web enabled device for the simple fact that if there is a security hole to exploit in a device someone will write an exploit for it eventually.

Apple privacy concerns go to court

moeluv Here goes (1 comments)

I'm probably going to be burning positive karma by saying this but here it goes. This is what comes with the walled garden. I have to think Apple is getting some sort of payoff from advertisers for access to this sort information. True "it just works" but is it worth it to you to allow this kind of access to your personal information?

Apple's $1 Billion Data Center Mystery

moeluv Re:Apple's going to change computing for the masse (244 comments)

and so what happens when something like the pdf exploit ruins their "just works" atmosphere. Problem is in many cases they are still fucked and now have to overpay to get a fix instead of having eduscated themselves on how to avoid the problem. It really doesn't matter how you frame it, it is intellectual laziness and i have no sympathy for those who fall victim to it. The security of those platforms are an illusion the sooner you realize that and get on with educating yourself the better.

Apple's $1 Billion Data Center Mystery

moeluv Re:Apple's going to change computing for the masse (244 comments)

It's not elitism to expect that someone could run proper security software. If you use M$ products they even provide a nice security suite for free. I honestly don't believe it's too much to ask of people to be involved in learning the basic maintenance of their possessions. I don't know alot about cars but I do know how to do an oil change. I don't work in construction but I have learned to do some of my own home repairs. What you are advocating for is company sponsored intellectual laziness. Sorry I can't support that.

Apple's $1 Billion Data Center Mystery

Horrible place to use this but it applies in lesser circumstances as well as greater..... Those who would trade freedon for security deserve neither. Learn to secure your own damn box.

Banknotes Go Electronic To Outwit Counterfeiters

moeluv Re:Go electronic! (441 comments)

Barter is a great way to do business. I trade stuff from my garden to the neighbor, who raises chickens, for eggs. I need a new front step built for my porch so I rebuilt a PC for a mason I know he is pouring my new step when the weather gets decent in spring. I do business by barter anytime I can and definitely encourage everyone to do the same.

Republicans Create Rider To Stop Net Neutrality

moeluv Re:Vocalize (528 comments)

unfortunately true but much of that money is used to get re-elected. If enough of their voting base is telling to vote for something or be booted next election they are likely to listen. It doesn't have to be a majority either just enough of a vocal minority to get their attention.
