So if you're sharing your wi-fi with the public at large and someone commits an "Internet Nasty" while connected via your router - who is criminally liable?

Ask Slashdot: What Would It Take For You To Buy a Smartwatch?

motorsabbath Simple - $100 / day (427 comments)

$100 / day, paid in full by google, direct deposit, and I'll wear a stupid fucking smart watch.

I don't have to use it, do I?

PS: I already wear a watch.

Ben Starr Answers Your Questions About Sustainability and Kitchen Tech

motorsabbath Re:Removing gluten in the mash? (46 comments)

Yeah I've seen that stuff. It's spendy. I have been meaning to try it in a pilot batch, though. I wasn't aware it pushed below 20 ppm. THAT is news. Thanks!

Ben Starr Answers Your Questions About Sustainability and Kitchen Tech

motorsabbath Removing gluten in the mash? (46 comments)

"(There are now innovations in the mashing process that can remove most of the gluten from a full barley grain bill, so it's no longer necessary to resort to sorghum!)"

As a professional brewer this is news to me. I would love to see this point expanded upon.

Beer Price Crisis On the Horizon

motorsabbath Not only price rises but also lots of closures (397 comments)

Speaking strictly as a small brewer (7 BBL) this would put us out of business. To be honest I think we seem to have pushed it back for now.

Brewing Beer With Free Software

motorsabbath Re:The original Free as in Beer (83 comments)

Many of the day-to-day calculations we use in our craft brewery are simple Perl scripts run on FreeBSD. Who needs more? The real work is done with a pencil and a calculator anyway! ;-)

Apple Quietly Recommends Antivirus Software For Macs

motorsabbath As soon as we see something in the wild ... (484 comments)

... let me know.

"Some 3rd party vendors have spent quite a bit of time and money catering to CIOs freaked out about Macs appearing on their networks and have created or ported AV apps to the Mac, but no-one is buying these apps at all. We promised them we'd at least suggest to people that they buy AV software, just to keep them happy."

Nothing to see here, please move along.

Offering wi-fi access as a small business

motorsabbath motorsabbath writes  |  more than 2 years ago

motorsabbath (243336) writes "We are opening a small business in a downtown area. Metropolitan wi-fi locally ran out of funding and ended. We are considering offering wi-fi access to our customers. If someone commits an "internet nasty" while using our wi-fi, where does the liability lie? No lawyer we ask has any idea. Our ISP has no idea. Anyone here offering wi-fi to customers as a small business? Does one have to use some sort of paywall with a disclaimer to get around legal liability? For the record, these disclaimers never hold up in court...."
