How the 'Tech Worker Visa' Is Remaking IT In America

mp3LM Re:Remaking IT to be an anti-citizen? (436 comments)

Yes lets give all out opportunities to foreign workers, so they wont go home.. I mean those workers we grew ourselves just suck.

But that's the thing - we grew both of them. Both of them went to an American school. All this is attempting to do is prevent them from just taking their education and leaving.

How the 'Tech Worker Visa' Is Remaking IT In America

mp3LM Re:You're obviously "not too smart" then (436 comments)

I read this discussion differently. We're talking about people trained in American schools and therefore I'm assuming that when they graduate they are of the same caliber as anyone else who graduates from an American school.

How the 'Tech Worker Visa' Is Remaking IT In America

mp3LM Re:Remaking IT to be an anti-citizen? (436 comments)

I get paid more then most people and it is because of my hard work and dedication. I'm white and American and I've NEVER had a problem finding a job. If you have issues maybe you should try to learn some more to make yourself more valuable instead of wasting time on /. complaining that people don't reward your lazyness.

How the 'Tech Worker Visa' Is Remaking IT In America

mp3LM Re:Remaking IT to be an anti-citizen? (436 comments)

The idea isn't to cut wages. The idea is plainly stated to keep the brightest that we train in this country (America). The idea is that we want smart people in the country and currently they are leaving the country for better opportunity elsewhere.

This is such a stupid point to make. If you could have your driveway paved the EXACT same way with the EXACT same quality for $2500 or $3500 which would you pick?

None of those are traditionally online. The argument is about the online perception.

Startups a Safer Bet Than Behemoths

mp3LM Re:Why would they want to innovate? (378 comments)

I don't agree with the second one. If they spent time and money researching something but then decided not to use it right away it's still their right to have the patent.

Behind the Special Effects of Inception

mp3LM Re:Haven't Seen Inception (196 comments)

You can liken it to going out to eat food. It's cheaper and more comfortable to do either at home, but sometimes you just need to get out and spending a few extra bucks now and then is not the end of the world.

iPad Bait and Switch — No More Unlimited Data Plan

mp3LM Re:Apple versus Microsoft (670 comments)

I'm going to go out on a limb ... from just the summary it would appear that this has very little to do with actions from Apple and has to do with actions from AT&T. If we were required to pick a 'bad guy' in this situation the choice would clearly be AT&T. However, everyone knew it was just a matter of time before tiered data plans started and unlimited stopped as it just makes sense. Yeah no...I get it...free and cheap is nicer...but I'd rather have the tiered data plan then have them go out of business and have nothing.

Pedestrian Follows Google Map, Gets Run Over, Sues

mp3LM Re:Oncoming Traffic Re:For serious? (699 comments)

b) You walk on the shoulder opposite the flow of traffic (so you can see what's coming).

You're supposed to walk on the traffic to your back so the driver can more easily see you. They need to make a decision much quicker then you and then seeing you is more important then you seeing them.

SCAM - Sidekick Data Loss

mp3LM mp3LM writes  |  more than 4 years ago

mp3LM (785954) writes "This is a warning on a recent story posted on several news outlets (/., NYT, WST, PC Mag) regarding the TMobile SideKick data loss. It appears as though scammers are now sending out spam trying to obtain phone and e-mail addresses and linking to articles to try and prove their cases. Here is the e-mail I had received:

Chris Locke to clocke@cguweb.com
Oct 11

Hi Everyone!

Pardon the impersonal message, but I am rebuilding my phone and email contact list, and requesting that you send me your information at your convenience.

T-mobile, or rather Microsoft, lost all sidekick users' contact lists this past week, and we've been recently told they will most likely not be able to restore them.

Over 350 contacts — gone! Makes it hard for me to continue to be a devote sidekick user, being this is the world's first and largest data loss as far as cloud computing goes.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/11/AR2009101100109.html

Way to go, Microsoft!

Thanks for your help!
Chris Locke

P.S.
My apologies if you receive this message multiple times

cell: 561.389.7375
email: webmaster@cguweb.com

Please warn your family and friends. Although it may not look convincing to the tech savvy many people are not tech savvy and will fall for this scam. Keep an eye out and good luck!"
