CloudFlare Announces Free SSL Support For All Customers

nefus Thats not exactly true (67 comments)

CloudFlare doesn't require a fee to invalidate content. You just set your site to Development Mode. Then turn it off or wait 3 hours for it to auto-turn off. This feature is available even to free accounts. Seems presumptuous to say Amazon CloudFront is better when you don't know the whole feature set.

Google Offers a Million Bucks For a Better Inverter

nefus Re:110 or 240v (260 comments)

Heh, once, in a pinch, I have made due with a "special" extension cord - with two 3 prong 110 heads spliced onto a 220 socket... All I had to do was find two outlets on different phases and I was in business ;-) Don't worry, I cut it up when I was done.

Ridgid and other brands sell cords that split 220 into 110. They are made to be used with their generators and work like a charm. No need to cut them up after you are done. :-)

NADA Is Terrified of Tesla

nefus It's because NADA is a Union and Tesla refuses UAW (455 comments)

The UAW wants Tesla to join their union. And NADA wants Tesla to join their union. Tesla doesn't want to play ball. So the unions are flexing it's muscle to make Teslas join their unions. Really guys, it's that simple. It has nothing to do with the fact their car is electric. Seriously, just google for `tesla car union` and you'll find stories about the UAW. http://insideevs.com/uaw-looks... http://www.teslamotors.com/sv_...

I've lost 2.5 small engines to ethanol. It's made growing food & mowing grass a pain in the butt.

The Koch Brothers Attack On Solar Energy

nefus Title is all around (769 comments)

Shouldn't the title say `Koch brothers fight Incentives` instead of Solar energy? I bet you a dollar that if there was money to be made in solar power, they'd be hip deep in the middle of it.

UN Report: Climate Changes Overwhelming

nefus Geologic Ice Age (987 comments)

How can we be living in a geologic ice age and be worried about global warming? And I watched a show on science channel the other night that said trees were becoming less dominant (giving way to grasses like bamboo) because the co2 level were so low. It makes little sense to me, it's either one or the other.

Gunshot Victims To Be Part of "Suspended Animation" Trials

nefus What type of people though? (357 comments)

Aren't the people who get brought in for these types of injuries typically gang bangers and drug related? So if successful, they are freezing people who can't make it in our world and pushing them into the future where they will never be able to make it socially. LOL!

Apple Reportedly In Talks With Comcast For Separate Apple Streaming Path

nefus Pay 3 times for the same bandwidth? (150 comments)

Customers like end-users content providers pay for bandwidth access. And Netflix for example and it's users are customers are due what they have paid for. Anything else is extortion. Seriously, why dangle higher speeds in front of customers if you aren't allowing them to use it? Don't sell what you have no intention of supporting. Paying a third time for extra guaranteed bandwidth is nothing but extortion when you are threatening the content providers income.

How Well Do Our Climate Models Match Our Observations?

nefus Then we should discount other studies too? (560 comments)

Using your comments. We should also cancel out avid atheists too then? I'd be curious to see if there are any REAL people in the middle when it comes to scientists in either way. In same same vein, we should cancel out studies by scientist who get paid to do studies by any person, organization or government that wants to prove global warming is man made. Try to find some real neutrality by honestly curious scientist, I'm wondering if you really could.

Am I to understand, that a lawyer is complaining about something sleazy and underhanded? Really? A lawyer? The same guys who sleaze their way to the top, then get political jobs so they can sleazy their way to the top again? They are the ones complaining about something possible being sleazy happening to them? Really? Let me get you a tissue.

Wayland 1.4 Released — Touch, Sub-Surface Protocol, Crop/Scale Support

StackOverflow and Github Visualized As Cities

nefus StackOverflow Jerks? (45 comments)

Will this map highlight the number of jerks there are on StackOverflow? I can't count the number of times you'll see a question posted asking an intelligent question but all of the comments are asinine replies that don't actually answer the question. Then there are the questions from new folks who are trying to learn, maybe they are completely newbs and wow do they get flamed. Everybody has an opinion they want the world to know about, but at least try to answer the question without being a jerk!

Property Managers Use DNA To Sniff Out Dog Poop Offenders

nefus Re:Nothing else to do but whine? Try planning ahea (234 comments)

In your case I can see why it matters. You did plan ahead but didn't have the ability to force the issue. However vote me troll or not, I still think my suggestion will work in many cases. And No, I'm not pro poop-on-your-lawn. Mostly because its rude. Perhaps there should be a caveat that requires those owners to sign a contract that states they must pick up the poop.

Property Managers Use DNA To Sniff Out Dog Poop Offenders

nefus Nothing else to do but whine? Try planning ahead! (234 comments)

I don't live in condos or apartments for a variety of reasons. Several of them are because of the whining from property managers on a variety of issues, this is only one of them. Besides, why the heck do you allow animals if you aren't willing to put up with the results of your decision? Charge a fee for animals and pay somebody to come around and clean up the poop, there are services that do that very thing. Anyway, its nice to have the convenience of letting my dog poop in my own yard. Its good for the grass anyway, natural fertilizer.

Ask Slashdot: How Would You Stop a Debt Collection Scam From Targeting You?

nefus Re:PhoneTray Pro (497 comments)

I like the old free version not pro. I don't think they offer the old version on their site anymore. The old version didn't depend on a network connection. Probably fewer features though enough to do the job

While thats true, the old version also didn't work well with very many modems and had fits with drivers.

Ask Slashdot: How Would You Stop a Debt Collection Scam From Targeting You?

nefus PhoneTray Pro (497 comments)

I use PhoneTray Pro (http://www.phonetray.com/). It works pretty well for me. It has black and white lists and an online blacklist. You just need a cheap voicemodem (get the one they recommend) and you're off to the races. I get 1 ring on blocks, then they hear a disconnect phone recording.

STUDY: FUELS FROM CORN WASTE NOT BETTER THAN GAS

nefus nefus writes  |  about 6 months ago

nefus (952656) writes "Biofuels made from the leftovers of harvested corn plants are worse than gasoline for global warming in the short term, a study shows, challenging the Obama administration's conclusions that they are a much cleaner oil alternative and will help combat climate change. A $500,000 study paid for by the federal government and released Sunday in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Climate Change concludes that biofuels made with corn residue release 7 percent more greenhouse gases in the early years compared with conventional gasoline."

Texas teen makes violent joke during video game, is jailed for months

nefus nefus writes  |  about a year ago

nefus (952656) writes "A Texas teenager who has been in jail since March faces an eight-year prison sentence because of a threatening joke he made while playing an online video game. In February, Justin Carter was playing “League of Legends” — an online, multiplayer fantasy game — when another player wrote a comment calling him insane. Carter’s response, which he now deeply regrets, was intended as joke. “He replied ‘Oh yeah, I’m real messed up in the head, I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,’ and the next two lines were lol and jk,” said Jack Carter, Justin’s father, in a statement to a local news channel."

Snapchats Don't Disappear

nefus nefus writes  |  about a year and a half ago

nefus (952656) writes "Forensics Firm Has Pulled Dozens of Supposedly-Deleted Photos From Android Phones. A 24-year-old forensics examiner from Utah has made a discovery that may make some Snapchat users think twice before sending a photo that they think is going to quickly disappear. Richard Hickman of Decipher Forensics found that it’s possible to pull Snapchat photos from Android phones simply by downloading data from the phone using forensics software and removing a “.NoMedia” file extension that was keeping the photos from being viewed on the device. He published his findings online and local TV station KSL has a video showing how it’s done."

Punkbuster offline means games go off-line?

That means the more than 300+ games like Battlefield 3 have been unplayable. Why has the industry decided to tie itself to one single company for cheat prevention thus hamstringing itself when situations like this arise?"

Netflix Blocking Internet Access to HD Movies

nefus nefus writes  |  about 2 years ago

nefus (952656) writes "At the Consumer Electronic Show two weeks ago, Netflix announced that it would block consumer access to high definition and 3D movies in its new "Super HD" (HD) service for customers of Internet service providers (ISPs) that Netflix disfavors. Netflix’s goal is to coerce ISPs into paying for a free Internet fast lane for Netflix content. If Netflix succeeds, it would harm Internet consumers and competition among video streaming providers. It would also fundamentally alter the economics and openness of the Internet, “where consumers make their own choices about what applications and services to use and are free to decide what content they want to access, create, or share with others.”"
