If you say so. However, I got rid of the stock OS and installed CyanogenMod and am very pleased with its performance. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Three-Year Deal Nets Hulu Exclusive Rights To South Park

neghvar1 Promoting piracy (138 comments)

It is actions like this that cause an increase in piracy of content. Taking what used to be free to watch and now charging for it. The content providers are thus promoting the piracy of their own products.

My most recent energy-saving bulbs last ...

neghvar1 Dirty power (278 comments)

The apartment we live in has a dirty electrical system (lots of spikes, sags, surges and dips). We have a UPS attached to anything that does not use direct AC power. The only problem is that these new LED and florescent bulbs are sensitive to spikes and surges compared to incandescent bulbs. As a result, they died significantly faster that advertised.

The Rise and Fall of the Cheat Code

neghvar1 How I define cheating. (178 comments)

I see cheating as gaining an unfair advantage over another player. I do mean player and not bots or the computer (no moral dilemma) I remember in Age of Empires 2, you could enable cheats for all players and those games got crazy. (despite using cheat codes, I did not see this as cheating because no one was at a disadvantage) My general rule was play it through the first time with out cheating, then cheat to your heart's delight. The two worst cases of cheating in multiplayer games was Diablo 1 and Counter Strike 1. In Diablo 1, multiplayer toons were saved on the local computer instead of online along with that there was an app (bobafett) that aloud various cheats including killing all players on the same level you were on and then claiming their gold and gear that dropped. Counter Strike 1's infamous cheat was OGC. x-ray walls, auto target lock, auto fire. It got so bad that the more skilled players were being accused of cheating if their scores were significantly above the others. (this happen to me on numerous occasions) . I can't think of any other multiplayer cheat epidemics

The Sudden Policy Change In Truecrypt Explained

neghvar1 Re:Speculation (475 comments)

Of course there is no concrete evidence. If there was, those involved with Truecrypt would have been arrested and charged with violating 18 U.S.C. 2709(c) of the USA Patriot Act.

Game Industry Fights Rising Development Costs

neghvar1 Re:What advances? (111 comments)

Bioshock Infinite was an amazing game in all aspects. It was the first game I played on my newly built system which pushed it to its limits. It is unfortunate that Irrational Games closed its doors.

neghvar1 What advances? (111 comments)

Superior graphics, AI, and audio. Don't make a kick-ass game. IMO, the greatest video game of all time is Star Control 2 (1993)

FBI: $10,000 Reward For Info On Anyone Who Points a Laser At an Aircraft

neghvar1 Re:This isn't the best way to handle the problem (445 comments)

I own a green laser pointer refereed to as a star pointer since the beam is easier to follow into the night sky. I use it to point to stars and constellations to educate my daughter. When I see an aircraft, I turn it off. What if someone observes me and thinks I'm shining it at an aircraft and wrongfully reports me?

Reason To Hope Carriers Won't Win the War On Netflix

neghvar1 Anti-competitive business practices (213 comments)

If /when overwhelming evidence is found that ISPs are throttling Netflix and other such services, those services could sue for anti-competitive business practices.

I assume if direct contact with lava/magma is expected, the pipes or tubes would be made of tungsten. Possibly with a carbon fiber lining.

US Supreme Court: Patent Holders Must Prove Infringment

neghvar1 Re:Next step after that... (143 comments)

Software patents need extreme reform. In their present form, It's like Tylenol patenting the concept of ingesting substance to relieve pain. The patent office would never permit that. Tylenol has to patent the specific formula of their pain reliever. This allows other companies to create a competing product that is a completely different formula but produces the same effect. Software patents should be the same. Company A's 4*5=20 should not infringe on company B's 10+10=20. Unfortunately, that is how software patents are being treated.

Federal Court Kills Net Neutrality, Says FCC Lacks Authority.

neghvar1 anti-competitive business practices (383 comments)

Though the ISP could throttle, demand a ridiculously expensive network usage fee to make the service unaffordable or even block services all together such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, I doubt they would. Any of those services would likely sue the ISP for anti-competitive practices.

neghvar1 Re:Bye Bye Netflix ... (383 comments)

Public uproar or not. If there is only 1 ISP available in an area, then the people are stuck with it whether they hate it or not.
