Google Preparing To Launch G-Town

nickdwaters A pattern that oft repeats itself (251 comments)

"Don't be evil." The road to hell is paved with good intentions. This idea of G-Town is the start of yet another indentured servitude scheme to eke out as much productivity as possible while subtly applying pressure that will enslave Google-ites both mentally, physically, and financially. American history is replete with examples and is fundamentally anathema to the concept of Liberty. Just like modern American economic enslavement. How are the payments of that McMansion and Hummer coming along?

Former Student Gets 30 Months For Political DDoS Attacks

nickdwaters Disgusting (486 comments)

This is outrageous. It does not require 30 years on the bench to comprehend the pure absurdity of this. People who commit real crimes such as manslaughter, murder, rape serve less time. The schemers on wall street who crashed our economy have caused incredible misery for millions of people, yet they walk free.

Kindle Allowing Chinese Unfettered Access To Web

nickdwaters Howz about now-ish... (138 comments)

"How long before Kindle traffic is locked down?" Naturally, reporting it really helped the Chinese people. Fair and balanced. Alive but in a prison camp.

nickdwaters Prohibition? (322 comments)

It's like a speak-easy from the era of prohibition for file sharing. What could possibly go wrong? Can anyone say entrapment?

FCC Approves Changes To Cable Box Rules

nickdwaters Very good idea (439 comments)

People would be foolish to fail to invest in upstarts that produce the equipment and software. This is going to be a big deal in the tech industry.

US Military Orders Less Dependence On Fossil Fuel

nickdwaters Great News! (317 comments)

If there is one thing the bulk of Americans rally about, it is maintaining and growing our military strength. The military attempting to move away from fossil fuels is the most positive development to ever occur in the so called "alternative energy movement", which should never have been trivialized. Petroleum distillation is simply not viable over the long haul.

Study Finds the Perfect Ratio of Attractiveness

nickdwaters Crappy article. No pictures. (176 comments)

The statistics are averaged across cultures they sampled. It's about as meaningful as the tendency of storks to build their nests in chimneys.

Are Desktop Firewalls Overkill?

nickdwaters IT Security Political Model (440 comments)

One can think of the modern era of desktop security akin to being a police state. So much has "gone down" that the conventional system of trust between client and server has been broken. Clients acting like servers spreading "problems" in the network degrading performance, taking down clients and servers is no way to run affairs. In a more civil situation, then we need only worry about the borders, everyone is happy, and rainbows shoot out of our butts.

James Cameron Commissions Submarine To Visit Challenger Deep

nickdwaters Vegas? (285 comments)

Is it safe to assume James Cameron and the crew will be placed on the infamous dead pool? I'll put $1000 bucks on it.

Boeing Gets $89M To Build Drone That Can Fly For 5 Years Straight

nickdwaters Snake Oil (271 comments)

It's nonsense. The probability of mechanical failure is outrageous, given the environmental conditions, and nature of mechanical devices. If it were biological in basis, that I can see. If anything it's a good exercise in engineering. Go Stimulus!

The Push For Colbert's "Restoring Truthiness" Rally

nickdwaters I would fly out for it (703 comments)

If Colbert did this, it would be an amazing speech. I would love to be there for it. If you haven't seen it yet, see his speech he gave to and about George Bush. It is on YouTube.

Charles Darwin's Best-Kept Secret

nickdwaters Re:Interesting tool (254 comments)

Ugh. The Grand Canyon has a large number of endemic species including plants AND animals. This mean there are species that evolved within the canyon that do not occur anywhere else on the planet, and there are more widely dispersed species which also occur there. It is not an empty barren wasteland, but, I can understand why people might think that way about it compared to a redwood forest.

Low Energy Supercomputing

nickdwaters The topic was building a cluster... (159 comments)

Ok this is retarded. Majority of posts are confused about basic energy nomenclature: Amperage, Watts, and Joules? The achievement of building a cluster and having to know the inner workings of an OS etc is a remarkable feat to occur in a short timeperiod. Kudos. And yes I did say retarded. Retarded people don't care, why should we.
