Ask Slashdot: What Are the Strangest Features of Various Programming Languages?

nicolastheadept Re:Lua[0]? (729 comments)

I would say it's more a weird feature of C to count from 0 (and everything copied it). Fortran and COBOL count from 1 (in fact, Fortran counts from whatever the hell you want it to)

Favorite Star Wars Movie?

nicolastheadept Re:The Clone Wars Animated Series (457 comments)

Depending on which episodes you've seen, you could be missing out. It varies a lot from season to season, season 1 wasn't that great, but there are amazing episodes in the other seasons.

Favorite Star Wars Movie?

nicolastheadept Re:Episode V! (457 comments)

The TV series is pretty good (some sections are excellent), so it's a shame about the film

Review: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

nicolastheadept Re:Re-release of 2004 turkey? (93 comments)

It's more about the absurdity of the specific rights to make Spiderman films. Sony loses them if they don't make any, that's why we had the reboot

Man Jailed For Refusing To Reveal USB Password

Erm, you have the right to remain silent in court. However adverse inferences can be drawn from your silence (and failing to mention something under police questioning).

Why Do Projects Continue To Support Old Python Releases?

nicolastheadept Re:It's because Python 3 is broken. (432 comments)

The question was never why not upgrade to Python 3. It was about why not stop supporting EOL versions of Python prior to 2.7

Ask Slashdot: Cheap Second Calculators For Tests?

nicolastheadept Re:Casio FX991ES (328 comments)

I've got this one, reasonably common in the UK, about the most powerful calculator you're allowed to take into most exams.

Senate Cybersecurity Bill Stalled By Ridiculous Amendments

nicolastheadept Re:Business as usual, but it still seems absurd (233 comments)

In the UK, bills have a short and a long title. You can't tack things onto a bill if that's not what the long title is about.

Political Science Prof Asks: Is Algebra Necessary?

nicolastheadept Don't really get the American system (1010 comments)

Perhaps it would be better to move away from graduation based on everything together, to passes in individual subjects? Allow pupils to excel in the areas they can.

nicolastheadept writes "Now this may be completely off topic for Slashdot but there is a long standing argument, where I live over which county Saddleworth is in. Many people (idiots) believe it to be in the West Riding of Yorkshire or in Lancashire, while it is actually in Greater Manchester (It used to be part of the others). I was wondering if the readers of /. could help finish this argument once and for all."
