Coal Plants Get New Lease On Life With Natural Gas

oh_my_080980980 Re: It's still reacting carbon and oxygen... (139 comments)

Like it's a waste of money to refit the power plant.

"Dunkirk's operator, NRG, wanted to mothball the plant in 2012, saying it was not economical to run. "

"The utility, National Grid, said shutting it down could make local power supplies less reliable, a problem that could be fixed by boosting transmission capacity—at a lower cost than repowering Dunkirk."

The issue the Dunkirk was refitted was because of political reasons. It had nothing to do with energy needs. So your argument holds no water.

Coal Plants Get New Lease On Life With Natural Gas

oh_my_080980980 Re: It's still reacting carbon and oxygen... (139 comments)

Keep pushing that canard. No activist has stopped the construction of a new power plant. The problem is financing. Banks don't want to lend the money because of the cost over-runs. That's why the nuclear industry has been pushing the government to guarantee those loans.

What Would Have Happened If Philae Were Nuclear Powered?

oh_my_080980980 Re: Speaking as an engineer (483 comments)

The real issue was the landing, not the power source. But this ass-hat would have you believe the fault was the power source. Yes if ifs and buts were candies and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. Stop the fucking arm chair quarter backing.

Republicans Block Latest Attempt At Curbing NSA Power

oh_my_080980980 Re:Thanks Obama... (424 comments)

LMOL...yeah the situation in Iraq is Obama's fault. It has nothing to do with our invasion of Iraq, under false pretenses, which created a power vacuum. Nah, that couldn't be it.

Education Chief Should Know About PLATO and the History of Online CS Education

oh_my_080980980 Re:I concur! People should study Plato (134 comments)

Somebody failed reading comprehension:

" ...Khan Academy, which Duncan credits for 'changing the way my kids learn'..."

"...who complained last December that he "didn't have the opportunity to learn computer skills" while growing up attending the Univ. of Chicago Lab Schools and Yale,"

"...the University of Illinois was teaching kids how to program online in the '70s with its PLATO system..."

"...notes that 650 students were learning programming on PLATO during the Spring '75 semester..."

"...Khan Academy is boasting that it "helped over 2000 girls learn to code" in 2014 (after luring their teachers with funding from a $1,000,000 Google Award)."

So what did we learn? The education chief is making a big fuss out of nothing based on his ignorance of on-line learning systems and that Khan Academy could only educate 1350 more students - after bribing teachers - 39 years later.

On-line education systems are irrelevant to someone who is pushing on-line education systems? Nice job ass-hole.

Microsoft To Open Source .NET and Take It Cross-Platform

RedHat is an operating system. .NET is a programming architecture. You need to look at the programming languages people learn.

Gridlock In Action: Retailers Demand New Regulations To Protect Consumers

oh_my_080980980 Re:Missing the point. (127 comments)

Jesus tap dancing Christ. Read the fucking article. It has nothing to do with forcing companies to spend any money on security! It's about the "...47 different state-based security breach notification laws, as well as laws in the District of Columbia and Guam" The retailers want one single system for NOTIFICATION of a breach: "A single federal law applying to all breached entities would ensure clear, concise and consistent notices to all affected consumers regardless of where they live or where the breach occurs."

Do you understand now moron!

Gridlock In Action: Retailers Demand New Regulations To Protect Consumers

oh_my_080980980 Re:Repeat with me (127 comments)

LMOL - do you know where regulations come from? They come from corporate lobbyists. Corporations write legislation that Congress passes. These "regulations" reduce the liability to Corporations. They do not protect consumers! Check out ALEC sometime.
