Greenlander's DNA Sequenced, After 5,000 Years

oskard Worst comment ever. (80 comments)

Genetic analysis revealed that 'Inuk' was stocky, possibly with a receding hairline, had a cold-adapted metabolism, A+ blood type, and possibly a rather bad haircut.

So... comic book guy?

The cold blood must be a genetic adaptation from years of basement dwelling.

Digg Backs Down On DiggBar

oskard Re:Browser bars make me puke... (180 comments)

The summary is wrong. It's not a browser add-on. It's a frame, loaded via HTML, like any other frame. It loads when you click a link on Digg.

What Do You Call People Who "Do HTML"?

oskard Markup Writer (586 comments)

You're a markup writer. Even if you're the best, most semantic, standard following markup writer in the world, you're not a web developer. If you only know the basics of CSS and Javascript, you can hardly call yourself anything but a markup writer.

Design technologist? You're not designing anything.
UI Engineer? Sorry, you're not really engineering anything if you're only using HTML. Either that or you're writing bloated, non-semantic markup.
Front-end / Client Side Developer? If the front end is ONLY HTML (what a boring site)

Dude, he's just showing a website/service he made. He's proud of it, and it sounds like it would actually be helpful in this instance. Why call him out? Just get over it.

Anyone Besides Zune Owners With New Year's Crashes?

oskard Well this is obvious... (480 comments)

My Microsoft Windows desktop crashed sometime between 18:59:40 EST (GMT -5:00) and 19:00:00 EST (GMT -5:00) on Dec 31, 2008 which remarkably corresponds to within at most 20 seconds of the New Year in GMT. I have been running this same hardware non-stop for more than 5 hours and other than the occasional BSOD and Windows updates, it has not crashed more than 1 or 2 times in 174,237 seconds of cumulative uptime. Nothing other than spyware, malware, and System Idle Process were running at the time of the crash.

Best Introduction To Programming For Bright 11-14-Year-Olds?

oskard Late but... (962 comments)

Processing. Having dealt with that age group before, I know how crucial it is to have a fast and easily understood graphics API. Processing will allow them to create great apps in just a few hours, and also teach them some useful and transferable syntax. Java or C++ would not be out of the question after a few weeks in Processing.

Accident Could Lead To Better Digital Cameras

oskard Nice accident... (120 comments)

Scientific accidents have brought some of the most groundbreaking discoveries - vulcanized rubber, X-rays, penicillin

I like how they compare 3 things that have been unimaginably advantageous to the human race to something that will allow me to view better-quality porn.

Best DNS Service With API Access?

oskard Re:DynDNS (221 comments)

Also be sure to check out Dynect!

DynDNS also offers another service, more business class. It has a MUCH more robust API, offers Failover, Load Balancing, Anycast, etc. Multiple users, node-based permissions. 37Signals, Mozilla, and RackSpace use Dynect. Highly recommended, give them a call!
