Heavy US Demand Delays iPad's Worldwide Release

pHus10n Re:Marketing (314 comments)

There was no specific release date other than "late April", which has been on Apple's UK site for over a month. Quit trying to make a damn conspiracy out of nothing.

pHus10n Re:As long as it's not Boxer, I'm ok (471 comments)

YOU don't have a problem with this because it doesn't affect YOU. And having your name expire *twenty years or longer* after you've supposedly served your time isn't rehabilitation --- it's an extension of sentence. Ask any sex offender, including the ones on a list for say......statutory of a 17 year old. The mob mentality, the iPhone apps showing nice little maps where you live, etc.

Many of them would tell you that prison is almost safer.

Why Apple Doesn't Market Squarely To Businesses

pHus10n Re:The only thing the Iphone expanded is the RDF (510 comments)

I'm sorry, but you're not allowed to redefine the dictionary like that. The iPhone is called a smartphone on many tech blogs, CNN, etc. If you have a hangup over that, calling it a feature-phone doesn't change that fact.

Microsoft's Risky Tablet Announcement

pHus10n Re:The Zune? Nope. (338 comments)

Early on, it was due to the accessories (docks on your office desk, car connections, etc). Now, it's a combination of that and inertia. Also, "everything" is an iPod now in the sense that all tissue is Kleenex.

Uniforms For the Help Desk?

pHus10n Re:Oh please. (837 comments)

And I would fire you the first time you pulled that tactic with me. If you accept employment, you agree to work for the terms and pay offered. If you want specific terms, you request them prior to employment.

Uniforms For the Help Desk?

Does your theory apply to my uniform? I wear the ABU (Airman Battle Uniform) in most environments. I'm also an IT guy.

Florida Congressman Wants Blogging Critic Fined, Jailed

pHus10n Re:Her Constituent Status Is Only Part of It (549 comments)

You assume the people that voted for him were idiots. I take offense; I voted for Pres. Obama specifically because of his policy suggestions. If you disagree with those policies, fine --- but don't try to lump everyone together and say we're blind. *I* am not.

New WoW Patch Brings Cross-Server Instances

pHus10n Re:And lots of bugs (342 comments)

I'm on a late-2008 24" iMac, 3.06Ghz / 512 Geforce 8800. My computer lags so bad in Dalaran after the 3.3 patch, I feel like a kernal panic is due any moment. One of the *first* things I noticed from the graphical changes they talked about was this weird fog in the Stormwind background behind my human paladin on the character select screen. Something drastic was changed, and not necessarily for the better.

Saying No To Promotions Away From Tech?

pHus10n Re:You can't say NO (410 comments)

And that attitude is exactly why we have programs such as MADD -- to provide facts, not wild internet theories. "A couple of beers" is why I recently stood in front of my commander, and witnessed my troop lose a stripe (for DUI). "A couple of beers" also killed my best friend when I was 19.

Maybe....just maybe if you're a ginormous food-addicted beast will it have a lesser effect on you from "a couple of beers" than me. But that's not what kills people. It's their feeling of being superhuman; of how it won't happen to them; how 2 beers and drive becomes 6 beers and drive later on.

I'm not attacking you -- I'm attacking that train of thought. If you drink.... even if it's just one .... CALL A TAXI. Please.

Cyber Attacks On US Military Jump Sharply In 2009

pHus10n Re:They still don't like us? (76 comments)

1) What's your suggestion to fix the problem? I see a lot of complaints, but so few solutions. You may have suggested something like.... hardening systems thru more secure software (abandon Windows -- whether you like it or not, it's the best target due to being used by everyone). Or, maybe beefing up a cyber attack strategy? No... instead, you complained only to complain.

2) It's not a Presidential Apology Tour. You could have made a good point, but instead you put your bias at the forefront of your post. To do so merely puts the reader/listener in a defensive position, rather than paying attention to the point you're trying to make. I don't recall seeing a press conference from Beijing where Pres. Obama is apologizing for our ways.

Bing Gains 10% Marketshare

pHus10n Re:Is it trickery? (514 comments)

See, this is the asshat comments that drive me away from Slashdot. You stated that about Microsoft/Google in a way to present bias --- that MS is evil and Google is not. Microsoft *did* setup Bing to steal users --- that's how a business gets customers in an established area. You don't see McDonald's saying "No, we'll let them have the 30-39 age group" to KFC.

Google did the exact same thing. Or do you believe that they didn't setup a search engine to steal customers from Yahoo, Altavista, and others just to sell ads?

Coordinating an attack on DRM?

pHus10n pHus10n writes  |  more than 5 years ago

pHus10n (1443071) writes "Very few Slashdot readers embrace DRM, and I'd like to propose something that may make an impact; something I have yet to see anywhere at the scale I'm considering. Why not coordinate extremely narrow attacks on companies that promote DRM? What I'm suggesting is mass emails to Senators and Congressmen/women on specific dates, a "Don't buy DRM material" date for iTunes, another a few days later for Xbox Live, mass emails to major news sources explaining your frustrations as a consumer, and mass emails to RIAA/MPAA members. While none of these seperately would make any long-term financial damage to a company, it would create noticable "blips" in their sales. This, coupled with a massive effort in news sources, could finally bring the problem to the forefront. Previous smaller scale efforts have been successful in many areas — consider the effort against Spore, Operation Humble Kanye with the Colbert Report, etc. Slashdot is a gargantuan community that has been able to inadvertently shut sites down through the "Slashdot effect". Can we coordinate with other major sites, such as Digg, Reddit, Facebook groups, etc to make this a massive enough effort to have an effect? What suggestions would you offer to get this off the ground, and how to organize it? What legal precedents could we use to approach Congress? Specific items to buy or stores to avoid entirely? Any discussion on this topic would be helpful. Disclaimer — I'm currently serving in the US military in Iraq, so I view DRM through the laws applicable to me. I would appreciate any other countries' members willing to participate, and how US Slashdot readers could assist in return."
