palion Re:Boy toy (786 comments)

Right, tech was quite unreliable then and many of the toasters had crashed when MS tried to first the toasters as a Windows 3.11 screensaver.

NPR: '80s Ads Are Responsible For the Lack of Women Coders

palion Re:Boy toy (786 comments)

Being a man, I feel that, actually, yes, women are better than men*. Men unconsciously feel that and oppress women not to let them use this actual superiority.

* The MEAN woman is better than the MEAN man. Indvidually there are huge differences of course.

Fixing the Pain of Programming

palion Re:Debuggers (294 comments)

Oh I know these Schroedingbugs. You see your code and wonder how the hell it could ever have worked - it has, but with such a bug inside that seems absolutely impossible. That has happened to me a couple times. Scary.

Tux3 File System Could Finally Make It Into the Mainline Linux Kernel

"Monoculture is never a good thing." Sentences with "sth. is never/always X" are generally not trustworthy... Always doubt. Maybe monoculture sometimes IS a good thing, who knows?

Tesla's Having Issues Charging In the Cold

palion Re: units please (476 comments)

That's right. For exactly this purpose the "ReheatCable"-encoding was invented at polar university in Hammerfest, Norway, where each 1 is transmitted als 101010101010 and each 0 as 010101010101.

Tesla's Having Issues Charging In the Cold

palion Re:units please (476 comments)

Now 0 fahrenheit are 18 degrees celsius and that's quite cold. But it's not uncommon to get that cold in winter in the mountains. In the regions where the rich people have their winter houses it gets that cold often, and these are the common Tesla clients. I am sure that in St. Moritz there is more than one Tesla driving around.

Tesla's Having Issues Charging In the Cold

palion Re:units please (476 comments)

Hey, I live in Switzerland, and 0 degrees is not uncommon in winter (you nonmetric folks call that "32 degrees fahrenheit"). No cable gets unusable at this temperature. It gets a bit more stiff, but that's all.

If I go outside in winter I get a bit more stiff too.

It's Not Just the NSA: Police Are Tracking Your Car

palion Re:Well this is necessary (201 comments)

I think that surveillance is not there to protect our freedoms, but to predict them. They will be pulverized.

Joining Lavabit Et Al, Groklaw Shuts Down Because of NSA Dragnet

palion Re:It was a myth (986 comments)

Why must there be a "best" country at all? Switzerland, that happens to be my country as well, is in some areas good and in some areas bad. But exactly the idea that many Swiss have that they live in the best country inhibits it from being the best one.
