Japanese and Swiss Watchmakers Scoff At Smartwatches

patscii Re: Maybe they should ask corded phone manufactur (399 comments)

I don't really buy the "it's just jewelry" argument. You brag about the precision, it's self winding, solar powered, tells time in different time zones - crap like that. As men, we want it to serve a purpose, more than women do. We want a cool peice of gear, as well as a peice of jewelry (or a status symbol, if you're insecure).

Japanese and Swiss Watchmakers Scoff At Smartwatches

patscii Re: Maybe they should ask corded phone manufacture (399 comments)

Smartphones are subsidized. They would have stayed very nitch if not for that fact. People are willing to pay ~400$ for a tablet, because it has comparable functionality to a laptop or something like that. Smart watches? I'm not sure I see the usefulness of them.

Amazon Embodies the Gender Gap in Tech

patscii Re: And Amazon's not the only one either! (302 comments)

Nobody wants to be a garbage man! That's where the boys go, after they do terribly in school. Girls do much better in school, and even if they don't they are better suited to service jobs. Neither gender is better suited to wear a suit and manage people.

Are Games Worth Complaining About?

patscii The internet has amplified our discontent (287 comments)

Just like it has done with all other forms of entertainment, the internet has given angry gamers a platform to complain. The more time you spend online the more you see people bitching. So I guess the question is this: were people just as unhappy about games 10 years ago and we didn't hear them, or have gamers become more critical as they spend more time talking to strangers about games?

Microsoft Training May Have Helped Tunisian Regime To Spy On Citizens

patscii This is so silly (129 comments)

So you mean if I sell someone an axe, knowing that they will kill someone with it, I am somehow responsible?

Google's 'ID Validation' Is a Joke, But Not Funny

patscii Re:Account verification (211 comments)

Sounds basically like an American drivers license. We just have a problem with National IDs. It stirs up apocalyptic ideas about 666, one world government, universal healthcare, stuff like that.

Chinese Firm Launches Cloud-Based Mobile OS

patscii Re:it's all about control (33 comments)

Since the trend in recent centuries is a decrease of freedom for the average citizen (don't think about the ballots, or the miniskirt: think about being able to feed yourself, to build a house, to get clean water from a well....)

People have access to cleaner water, and a healthier diet now, than 200 years ago...and china is selling hardware. It's called Android, and iPhone

patscii Re:Good for the USA (185 comments)

We don't take too kindly to educated peoples fleeing oppression to prosper in a free society in these parts.
