MIT's Ted Postol Presents More Evidence On Iron Dome Failures

To date Israel has not shown any proof whatsoever that Hamas was in any way involved in the kidnapping.

MIT's Ted Postol Presents More Evidence On Iron Dome Failures

petman Re:Here we go... (454 comments)

Unprovoked? You really are deluded. When was the first rocket fired by Hamas? I'll tell you, it was on 28 June 2014. Unprovoked means Israel did nothing before that. Is this true? How about when Israel demolished the homes of two suspected kidnappers on 26 June? In what civilised country do you demolish people's homes for punishment of an alleged crime without even holding trials to prove their guilt? Or even before that, when Israel detained 300 Palentinians without even offering any proof of their involvement in the kidnapping of the three boys? Unprovoked, you say?

I'm not saying Israel should level the playing field. I'm saying people like you should not blame Hamas for doing what they have to do when they have no other choice.

More than 500 Palestinians dead and climbing and you say Israel is trying to minimise casualties? Do you seriously expect people to believe that?

MIT's Ted Postol Presents More Evidence On Iron Dome Failures

petman Re:Here we go... (454 comments)

They're not at war? Are you high? Hamas has declared war on Israel from day one. At this very moment Israel and Gaza is exchanging rockets missiles and bombs and hundreds of people are being killed every day. If, as you say, "Israel could wipe them out in a matter of days", then do it and get it over with.

It's as stupid as asking Hamas to put their armaments in military installations where Israel can destroy them as easily as stealing candy from a baby.

MIT's Ted Postol Presents More Evidence On Iron Dome Failures

petman Re:Here we go... (454 comments)

Will Israel promise that if Hamas puts all its rocket launchers, military command and control, and military supplies neatly organised in easily identifiable military bases, Israel won't simply send a missile to figuratively cook all those eggs being put in one basket?

Will Israel remove the embargo being imposed of Gaza so that Hamas can buy better weapons that they can use to precisely target Israel military installations rather than have to make do with using cheap mortar and rockets that is just as likely to hit civillian targets as Israeli military installations?

If Israel is not willing to do the above, then don't complain when Hamas have to improvise just to have a fighting chance of defending themselves.

Android Beats iOS As the Top Tablet OS

petman Re: ANDROID != LINUX (487 comments)

You don't really need 16 MB to compile Android. If you stick to single thread compilation you can do it with only 8 MB or even less. It'll take ages but you'll get there eventually.

CyanogenMod Installer Removed From Google Play Store

petman Re:Voluntarily? (255 comments)

Google bought a company named Android Inc., but at the time the Android OS was still in early development - in fact, it was not even announced yet at the time. So the GP was essentially correct - it was Google that made Android what it is and made it open source.

CyanogenMod Installer Removed From Google Play Store

petman Re:Where's the outrage?! (255 comments)

Also, some devices, like non-carrier branded Samsung phones, don't come with locked bootloaders, so there's no such thing as unlocking the bootloader to begin with.

NY Police Get Tall SUVs To Combat Texting While Driving

petman Re:Texing Bans Increase Crashes (319 comments)

There's supposedly some "alternative" way to make it zoom in/out by holding and then moving up/down, but I can't get it to work.

To zoom with one hand, do a double-tap, and upon the second tap, hold. Then slide down to zoom in and up to zoom out.

i.e. tap, tap+hold... (while holding) slide up/down

FCC To Consider Cellphone Use On Planes

petman Re:I see $$$ signs! (183 comments)

The phones on the backs of seats can only be used to make, not receive, calls. OTOH, with cellphones, the airlines can impose a surcharge for both outgoing and incoming calls, much like with carrier roaming. There's also data roaming. So yes, the airlines to stand to make big bucks on this if they play it right.

Bill Gates's Plan To Improve Our World

petman Re:I like his choice in where to focus (445 comments)

You mean less taxes, not fewer. You're talking about the proportional amount, which is uncountable, so less should be used. Curious, because the post you're replying to actually used the correct word, less, but for some reason you felt it fit to paraphrase his words and incorrectly used fewer instead.

Most Drivers Would Hand Keys Over To Computer If It Meant Lower Insurance Rates

petman Re: Flagrant Flatulism Posing as Reporting (449 comments)

On the contrary, I would think if eventually all vehicles become autonomous and coordinated via a centralised network, traffic would flow much more smoother. If there are hazards or obstructions on the road, this information would be relayed to the central controller and all vehicles would be re-routed to minimise impact to traffic flow. With such a system, the flow direction of a lane cold even be changed at short notice as required, greatly optimising the usage of roads leading to improved traffic flow. Also, since computers have much faster response time compared to humans, and because there're no idiots at the wheel, the speed limit could also be increased significantly.

Why There Shouldn't Be a Chess World Champion

petman Re:Related question re: Women's Chess (284 comments)

They don't have separate men's and women's. The main FIDE rating list includes both men and women players. The thing is, there are just not that many highly rated women players. To put it into perspective, the current FIDE top 100 list contains only one woman - Judit Polgar, no. 58. So they created another list for women to make the game more competitive for women and increase women's participation. There are chess tournaments exclusively for women, but there are no tournaments exclusively for men. Women are free to enter the open tournaments.

As to why there are so many more good men chess players compared to women? I don't know.

Malaysia wants to block file-sharing websites

petman petman writes  |  more than 3 years ago

petman (619526) writes "The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has instructed Malaysian ISPs to block 10 websites that are alleged to be allowing illegal downloads of copyrighted movies and videos. Considering that these websites are foreign websites that shares videos and movies mostly produced by foreign companies, it is unclear what has prompted MCMC's recent action. It is suspected, though, that the move is intended to protect the revenue stream for Astro, Malaysia's sole satellite television provider, which has recently launched Astro First, supposedly the first-of-its kind movie-on-demand channel in Malaysia."
