Facebook Debuts New Gender Options, Pronoun Choices

phoenix03 Re:the difference? (462 comments)

I had to look up what pansexuality even was. I agree, sounds like a ton of work to just say 'I would be with anyone regardless of how they identify/what parts they have'.

Facebook Debuts New Gender Options, Pronoun Choices

phoenix03 Re:What's the difference? (462 comments)

This is kind of the same feeling I've always gone with. I think the vast number of names can get a little excessive, but I guess if the LGBTQ community needs that level of granularity in how they define themselves, might as well go with it. How other people decide to live their life, as long as it doesn't impact mine adversely, is their own business - as is what they call themselves.

At 5'4, I'm screwed. As an additional bummer, I prefer to date women shorter than me... Luckily, I'm perfectly happy with my 5'2 girlfriend.

Tech's Gender and Race Gap Starts In High School

phoenix03 Re:Actually it starts at conception (489 comments)

So what about when a group of women get together and talk about how men are pigs or how dumb we are? The upsetting thing is when a woman enters a group of men, she expects the behavior of the men to change to suit the woman.

They really dislike a lot of the joking that goes on in a team of geeks that's almost entirely male, and they're convinced the Valley's family leave policies are Evil and Anti-Woman,

And I really dislike this nonsense that tries to jam 'equality' into CompSci and completely disregards the bias against men in education. The very fact of being male has been under attack for far too long, and I'm sick of tolerating it.

Tech's Gender and Race Gap Starts In High School

phoenix03 Re:Actually it starts at conception (489 comments)

I understand the passion behind your posts, and I am actually in agreement with you on a lot of points. However, the womyn-born-womyn thing is blurring the message. A cursory 'Find' suggests you've used it 91 times. It's distracting from your points, to be honest.

Do Non-Technical Managers Add Value?

phoenix03 I'm lucky that's been my experience (249 comments)

Absolutely. While I would hesitate to call my manager 'non technical', he is much more focused on the look and feel of our company websites. It's my job to implement back end functionality. However, he makes my working life easy. I'm able to work for long periods of time with 0 interruptions - mainly because he fields all the 'feature requests' and complaints. A great manager can be worth their weight in gold - a terrible one can drag you down like they were made of lead.

Are Tablets Replacing Notebook Computers? (Video)

phoenix03 Re:Hideous website - tabtimes (211 comments)

Apparently tabtimes.com is planning to capitalize on the great success (lol) of Windows 8 but taking part of Metro and smearing it all over a website. Or, put another way, they threw Windows 8's design at a website to see if it'd stick.

DHS Turns To Unpaid Interns For Nation's Cyber Security

phoenix03 Re:Stick with what works... (174 comments)

Why in the hell would you have a limited time internship that requires a secret level clearance that will probably take the UNPAID intern months to get?

Seems like a ton of hassle for very little reward.

DHS Turns To Unpaid Interns For Nation's Cyber Security

phoenix03 Also relevants... (174 comments)

This position requires a Security Clearance of SECRET. SO, let me get this straight. Unpaid, FULL TIME, college age, best and brightest... with access to secret level items...

Nevermind. This is a great idea. What could possibly go wrong?

Female Software Engineers May Be Even Scarcer Than We Thought

phoenix03 Re:Because there is a severe shortage of good deve (445 comments)

The idea of me being afraid of women is ridiculous, as you would know if you actually KNEW me. Any assertions you make about me are invalid purely on that fact - you know nothing about me. I happen to treat my girlfriend with a tremendous amount of respect and love. I have nothing against women coders - I work with a couple. They are very talented, and I enjoy working with them. As for me being poisonous in the workplace? My superiors would disagree.

You completely missed the point of my post. If women want to code, then God bless - there's plenty of work to be done. If you don't, great - plenty of other fields for you. Where you lose me is the perception that because women CHOOSE to do something else, it something that has to be addressed. No, no it doesn't. And there are plenty of other comments addressing another completely ignored problem - where are the 'demands' for equality in teachers? or nursing? Don't hear much there. THAT is true equality - when both sexes are allowed to choose the fields that compliment them and their skills/desires, and let the distribution fall as it may.

As for hiring me? I would never in a million years work for you. You sound like a terrible boss.
