'First Base' In Greek Courts For ISP-Level Blocking

php_krisp Is this really a priority for Greece right now? (86 comments)

Okay - I barely ever post... but I saw this and just thought... "Really?" With the current Eurozone crisis, the fact that Greece have practically already defaulted on their debts, and the ever increasing likely hood that they will exit the Euro, is this really something which they should be working on? Personally, I'd just like to see them put a little bit more effort into reclaiming the billions of Euro in taxes owed due to a majority who aren't declaring their income... Just my 2 (euro)cents...

Been here since high school; you can take this 5 digit ID and shove it.

Oh - maybe we could swap IDs then? I quite fancy a 5 digit account...

Slashdot Launches Re-Design

php_krisp Not just on the desktop... (2254 comments)

But on my iPhone too the new theme is SLOW. Only since I got my iPhone 4 (having previously had a 3G) had I bothered with the full slashdot (as opposed to the text only version which I can no longer find) as it was too slow to load. Having just tried this new version on my iPhone I can't believe how slow it is. On a 1 year old macbook on RockMelt (which is just chrome really) => SLOW On my 1 year old Toshiba laptop on Opera => SLOW Oh dear :( Looks like I might be making a new text only version...

Starting to manage a development team

php_krisp php_krisp writes  |  more than 7 years ago

Kris (858209) writes "I'm a programmer and have been for the past 9 years — and for 3 of these years I've started a small media agency with two colleagues — a business advisor and a graphics designer, however in the past 12 months the business has expanded rapidly where now, as well as some outsourcing we've now got 2 more developers directly under me. Unfortunately I've never had any management experience — and I'm not really sure where to start.

Time planning etc. is fine as I've aways done this with my own workflow — however some of the softer skills and general people management I have a real problem with. Has anyone here been in a similar position where they've 'fallen into' a management position? And have some advice?"

php_krisp writes "Earlier on today Slashdot reported that Myspace.cn had gone live with people being asked to report on other breaking the rules. We've run an article on our blog about our experience on myspace china and were surprised to find that it censors on the fly words like 'Dalai Lama' and 'Tiananmen Square'. We immediately substituted those a's with á's to bypass the censor, but how long will it be allowed to stay up? Will it be deleted by tomorrow?"
