Sorry I thought you was showing me where the Linux binaries were. I personally don't care what OS you trust to run your software.

TrueCrypt Website Says To Switch To BitLocker

pjbgravely Re:Trust (566 comments)

I have the Linux release, I have used it for a long time. The update release is the new read only version. I will have to disable the repository so I don't update to this until I can find a replacement.

That is if this isn't a hoax.

The Brakes That Stop a 1,000 MPH Bloodhound SSC

pjbgravely Re:Stronger? (262 comments)

"Steel rotors" is probably another typo. I have heard of stainless steel rotors and the commonly used cast iron rotors but a solid steel rotor that is used on a motorcycle sounds like it would heat up too fast in this application. My guess that it is a standard cast iron vented rotor.

Favorite Star Wars Movie?

pjbgravely Re:Episode V! (457 comments)

Imperial armaments were designed for shock and awe, to use fear as a weapon. There are some to attack a city and some for a village. When it came to real warfare their numbers and weapons power won, not their total design.

Stack Overflow Could Explain Toyota Vehicles' Unintended Acceleration

pjbgravely Re:Even mechanical throttle is no cure... (664 comments)

How can users protect themselves from sometimes life endangering software bugs?"

Simple, with a car make sure it has a throttle cable and a clutch peddle.

I know I can hear it now, you can't buy a car with a throttle cable and you can't drive standard in a city.

If everyone stopped buying cars with throttle by wire, they would stop making them. The rest of the world drives standard in a city, you can too.

Routers Pose Biggest Security Threat To Home Networks

pjbgravely Re:That's why I resisted as long as I could... (264 comments)

Don't forget to hard disable the microphone on the laptop if it has one. There is a malware that can communicate using high frequency sound, from a networked machine to un-networked one. Of course both machines have to be infected. Probably with a virus attached to a file of the networked box.

Time Warner Deal Is How Comcast Will Fight Cord Cutters

pjbgravely Re:what price increases? (424 comments)

LOL I must have been really tired when I wrote that. Actually the type of Grammar mistakes I was talking about are the "they need to do way instain mother" types. In the car forums the "bad breaks" posts always make me cringe but at least I can understand what they are trying to say.

Time Warner Deal Is How Comcast Will Fight Cord Cutters

pjbgravely Re:what price increases? (424 comments)

I don't normally reply to cowards and I never mod them up, even for a great post like this unless they have a real reason to be anonymous.

I see your point about the mindless zombies in today’s world. At least in the USA in the area I live grammar is horrible and driving is worse. They run stop signs read lights, and if no lines on the road will drive on the wrong side. On line marked roads they have rumble strips on the middle line to stop the head on accidents from people crossing over.

Personally I don't think this is because they are just driving and writing the way everyone else is, I think the problem is that people are lazy and don't want to expend the energy to do things correctly.

Because you didn't bother to log in you will probably never read this reply, but since I am not lazy I thought I would write it anyway.

Slashdot Tries Something New; Audience Responds!

pjbgravely Re:Hey theres a new beta slashdot? (2219 comments)

Not being a coward I had to go to (you will have to copy paste it, a link will send you to meta). When I get there it pretends to be Mork and says it can't give me any comments. Perhaps they decided to use an off site java source for the commets which I automatically block.

If beta goes live with off site scripting then I will have to decide if it is worth the effort to enable the script it needs or just find somewhere else to go.

Judge Says You Can Warn Others About Speed Traps

pjbgravely Old news (457 comments)

This was addressed in NY state in '94. The results was that flashing headlights was not a crime.

The funny thing is people don't flash if they think your brights are on anymore. They keep their brights on for a few seconds. That is a crime.

Government To Require Vehicle-to-vehicle Communication

pjbgravely Re:Liking my old cars more and more. (390 comments)

How can a head check result in you rear-ending another car?. The only way I see is if someone is not following the car in front at the legal 2 seconds or the recommended 3 to 4 seconds. I doubt this happens to tailgaters because I never see them driving using mirrors or head checking, just plow their own hole through.

Programmer Debunks Source Code Shown In Movies and TV Shows

My pet peeve is when the fire alarm sets off the sprinklers. I know the sprinklers set off the fire alarm and only melting metal will set off each individual sprinkler head. Almost every movie and TV show gets it wrong

Did you ever think it might be your sound card?
I've always been able to hear high pitches no one else could, like the whine of a CRT high voltage.
Now I fail all those high frequency tests and I have been wondering if it is my real tech audio that crashes when ever there is high CPU usage.
With this story I will add a sound card and will have to retest.

I posted the above a while ago and I finally disabled the dieing realtek sound chip on my MB, and installed an SB Live 24bit PCI card.

I did a bunch of hearing test and although my hearing is reduced at above 16kHZ I can still hear up to 22kHz.

Submitting stories

pjbgravely pjbgravely writes  |  more than 8 years ago I have submitted a few stories here, and they have always been rejected. Most get axed in 15 min but one made it a whole 1/2 hour. So far none of them have been dupes. The last 2 stories I was going to submit ended up on the front page so maybe I am learning what the editors like.

Anyway, I decided to submit a poll too see how fast that got rejected. So far the poll I submitted on Sunday January 22, @05:20PM is still pending, almost 4 months. Maybe they will actually use it, but it probably got lost somewhere.

Me, Myself, and I

pjbgravely pjbgravely writes  |  more than 9 years ago This is who I am. First I suffer from Cluster headaches, a rare illness with no known cause and cure. If you would like to know more, check out my gallery on the subject. I am a hacker at heart but not quite there. I am a Linux user, I love being able to do what you want with my computer. I am unemployed with no prospects in my line of work. Change is coming soon. If I stay on-line I will try to update this when my life finally takes a turn. I am a bad speller and I didn't want to spell check this. I am a photographer but don't have a good camera. I also have and use Gravely tractors, the old cast iron two wheelers. I love them because they are made to last forever.

That's all for now,

PS I lied, I did do a spell check
