top Discovery Claims It Will Show a Man Being "Eaten Alive" By an Anaconda
We do not know that they can eat a person. We know they can kill a person however our shoulders cause issues for any snake trying to swallow us whole. Beyond that they tend eat things smaller than us. Consuming a 200 pound animal makes it very difficult for the snake to react defensively or flee from any threats.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E... Relevant passage: Many local stories and legends report the anaconda as a man-eater, but little evidence supports any such activity.
Regardless, this is stupid and it seems incredibly unlikely to be successful unless they found a horse jockey whose "snake proof suit" somehow can withstand the constriction while still being small enough to swallow.

top ISS Studies Show Bacteria From Earth Could Colonize Mars
Yes but are there any microbes that survive all of those in an active form at the same time? I don't disbelieve that some inactive microbes could essentially hibernate on Mars indefinitely. However certain conditions need to exist for those microbes to flourish.
The little critters near the thermal vents in the bottom of the ocean are pretty tough but ultraviolet light isn't something they've ever had to deal with and its unlikely they have any protection against it. Same with anything in antartica. They can do -40 and they can do ultraviolet light but can they do 0 oxygen?
Its not about saying "Huzzah this can survive 3 out of the 4 requirements!". They need to survive all of them and that seems unlikely. Unless we were planning on digging a hole, dropping them in there and covering them back up. Again assume the soil isn't too different for them to adapt.

The bandwidth was apparently pretty good but grandpa says the latency sucked.
top Dogs' Brains Have Human-like "Voice Area"
I have a 3 year old Great Pyrenees and a 4 month old German Shepherd. They routinely tell on each other such as if one makes a mess or the other steals a stuffed animal it should not have. Additionally, they will also rat out my daughter if she does something they don't like. They look for me if there is trouble such as the time my daughter locked herself out of the house one morning. I woke up to the Pyrenees whining at the bedroom door. Since he was frantic I followed him downstairs and let her back in.
I seem to recall a study that demonstrated dogs vs wolves in how they handle problem solving. The short of it is that if a dog comes across something it can't solve on its own (ball rolls under a couch, etc) it will very quickly find its human to help. Wolves, even tame ones, will not go to humans for help. I believe this was done for similarly raised dogs and wolves so seems to be a side effect of the domestication process.
top Ask Slashdot: What To Do With Misdirected Email?
My gmail address is email@example.com, so it this probably happens every 3 months or so. Due to this, plenty of people intending to do slastname or plastname screw up and it goes to me. What I tend to do is if it looks important (hotel confirmation, the budget notes of some organization), I will attempt to forward it to the person intended. If I am unable to do that, I will respond to the person sending it and advise that they have the wrong address. If its not important (website registration), I'll usually ignore it.
Funnily enough, I received notification from a car dealership asking me how I was doing with my new car, etc. I recognized the name on it and called my brother to congratulate him.
top Sochi Olympic Torch Taken On Historic Spacewalk
So the thing that holds the part that is lit on fire for some sporting event very 4 years was carried around in space?
How is this anything other than some PR for the next Olympics and why is it on slashdot? There is nothing interesting about this. Now if they had designed some contraption to allow the flame to burn in space that would be something.

top "Jekyll" Test Attack Sneaks Through Apple App Store, Wreaks Havoc
Yes Google does have the ability. If I get an app from the Play Store and it is removed by Google, they have the ability to remove it from my phone. Its happened a couple times with emulators. Now if I decide to circumvent the Play Store that is a different story.
However, that is what Android gives... choice. With the App Store you don't have that choice; you only use what Apple lets you use. If you want to be a moron and run any old app, you can't.

top Apple's iWatch Could Come With IOS, Earn $6 Billion a Year
I'm curious how this will be all that much different than an ipod nano mounted on a permanent wrist band. Outside of playing music and maybe voice based services such as maps or Siri (assuming cell data)I don't see the point over an actual iPhone based on screen size. Something that fits a wrist is not going to be great at reading text efficiently.
Maybe they can ship a free iMonocle with it.
top Cablevision Suing Viacom Over Cable Bundling
Netflix, hulu, amazon video, itunes, history channel
.com, comedy central .com, etc.
There are plenty of ways to get content legally for prices that are tiny compared to what the cable companies or direct tv offer. I only have an internet package and then pay for netflix and occasionally use the free hulu. My girlfriend has itunes and amazon video and we don't miss tv.
People have no problem paying for content; It is the extra $50 to $100 a month plus commercials that many don't see worth whatever extra value they provide over the above services.
