European Central Bank Casts Wary Eye Toward Bitcoin

r1_97 Bitcom - Where there's a will (301 comments)

Any system of unregulated digital currency is merely a challange. The minipulation in supply and value conversion into "real money" is just too tempting for exploiters. A look at historical rates demonstrates the volativity. Proceed at your own risk.

You appear to be a Republican. No compassion for the less well informed and trusting. If she does sue, it won't be frivilous law suit. She learned a lesson the hard way. Haven't we all done something stupid in our past?

Mathematical Parrot Reveals His Genius With Posthumous Paper

r1_97 Re:Things that still need to be done (111 comments)

We are bird breeders having several pairs of Greys. I've heard (hearsay) that Alex died from stress being pressured in learning tasks. Greys have learning abilities beyond other avian species and vary somewhat individually. This should be a lesson for tiger moms and other overly ambitious parents.

We get the government we deserve. Maybe (and I hope not) this is what it will take to turn the pendulum in the opposite directions.

If the RNC really wants to sit this out, why waste all that money, time and effort? Better yet, just give Ron Paul a shot, BO wins and continue obstruction and wait 4 years.

Scalpers Bought Tickets With CAPTCHA-Busting Botnet

r1_97 Re:Why is this a "scam"? (301 comments)

It's no different than what guys like George Soros do...

Who ever labled this insightful? Soros does not use bot nets nor deprive the public of any opportunities to invest in anything (analogous to grabbing up tickets to concerts).

If you want a rational debate, don't use broad labels like socialism. Look at specific issues of what government should do - public education, consumer protection, bank regulation, health care, social security etc.

Layoffs at Microsoft, Intel, and IBM

r1_97 Re:Gov Pay Not Perpetual Motion (623 comments)

"if the government pays a salary of $100,000 and then collects $30,000 in taxes, you can't say that not paying the salary is a loss of $30,000 in taxes. It's a gain of $70,000 via not paying the salary to begin with."

Only if you assume the government (its citizens) gets nothing of value for the $100k salary
Government can perform valuable/necessary services. Our president said that he wants to get rid of non functioning programs and increase needed ones so we can climb out of this economic mess.

I don't see the parent post as insightful.

Layoffs at Microsoft, Intel, and IBM

r1_97 Re:WTF is up with IBM? (623 comments)

As so often said - Past results do not necessarily project into the future. If backlog is down, large projects completed and future orders are canceled, it may be necessary to reduce staff.

Obama Significantly Revises Technology Positions

r1_97 Re:Vote with a bullet. (940 comments)

Society is too complex for the parties to all represent themselves. Excessive judgments are caused more by ignorant/emotional juries than lawyers. If you want to eliminate lawyers maybe we should also eliminate judges who are lawyers.

In primitive times one could take a dispute to a tribal chief to decide simple property rights. Try to imagine a complex patent or anti trust case tried without professional legal reresentation.
