After 47 Years, Computerworld Ceases Print Publication

ravenswood1000 So long. (105 comments)

I tend to read things while I'm on the toilet. Since I don't want to bring a tablet into the bathroom with me to read it in web form and risk dropping the tablet into the toilet, Computer World will not be on my reading list anymore.

Ask slashdot: Which 100+ User Virtualization Solution Should I Use?

ravenswood1000 Difficult question (191 comments)

Asking this is much like asking 'which is the best linux distro'. You won't get one answer. What type of system are you most comfortable with operating? If it is Microsoft system (for example) you have already got you answer. Are you are looking for a bare-metal hypervisor? Do you need GUI-heavy management tools? What sort of hardware are you going to use (old/new?). Probably looking at a comparison chart would be your best option. I could tell you what I use and why but that won't do you a bit of good. (kvm, stable and easy).

ravenswood1000 Should we write to the W3C? (447 comments)

If there is a coalition of 27 web freedom organizations that have sent a joint letter opposing DRM support, should we (Slashdot as an entity) also write them expressing our opposition?

RCMP Says Terror Plot Against Canadian Trains Thwarted

ravenswood1000 Re:That title has quite a spin on it. (170 comments)

So why can't they keep their mouths shut until they do? I can see if they got caught trying to get supplies or someone to help them but running off their mouths about their plans is just silly..

For the same reason idiots post crimes they commit up on Facebook or Youtube.

Microsoft will never learn no matter how much thier customer base screams and will alway assume they are doing things correctly and everyone else is wrong. Yes, they need to settle in on windows 7 and give up for a bit becase they can't do it right. Wouldn't hurt to fire some guy by the name of Ballmar either.

ravenswood1000 Does this apply to only MP3? (294 comments)

What about Flac and the other variety of formats that could be sold? This is a huge can of worms that no one will be able to bolt the lid on no matter what the judicial rulings are.
