Microsoft Aims To Offer Windows 10 Upgrades For All Windows Phone 8 Lumias

At it looks like M$ is taking steps in the right direction, which is more than we could have said during the Ballmer years.

Comcast Kisses-Up To Obama, Publicly Agrees On Net Neutrality

riis138 Re:Golf Buddies (258 comments)

This is something that has worried me more and more as we dig deeper into the net neutrality discussion. How are we going to force Comcast's hand when the two people at the negotiating table are going out for a round of golf afterwards? It's a major conflict of interest and one I am surprised that more media outlets have not picked up on.

Privately, they do everything they can to raise rates, stifle innovation, and milk 20 year old cable technology for everything its worth.

Multi-Process Comes To Firefox Nightly, 64-bit Firefox For Windows 'Soon'

riis138 Tempting (181 comments)

As a long time Firefox user who switched to Chromium, I am happy to see that Mozilla is taking these steps to ensure long term survival. Multi-process architecture is long overdue. I still maintain that Firefox has one of the most friendly developer communities out there.

Lost Opportunity? Windows 10 Has the Same Minimum PC Requirements As Vista

riis138 Re:WfW in VM (554 comments)

I have seen some very old apps working in healthcare I.T., especially in the microbiology lab. A virtual machine for legacy apps would be a major boon for those of us in the trenches supporting software from the Clinton administration.

Kickstarter's Problem: You Have To Make the Game Before You Ask For Money

riis138 Caveat Emptor (215 comments)

As far as i'm concerned, any project I back on Kickstarter is an investment. While I would love to see a return on investment (and believe me, some of the projects I have back have gone on to do great things), its not always possible. There are far too many people out there backing projects that expect a 100% ROI every time. This is simply not possible.

iPhone 6 Sales Crush Means Late-Night Waits For Some Early Adopters

riis138 Re:I just want the new Nexus. (222 comments)

I agree...Even the die hard Apple fanboys I work with were pretty unimpressed with the announcement. It really feels like Android is where everything interesting is happening nowadays from a development standpoint. Who knows, maybe even Microsoft can gain a foothold.

How long ago did you last assemble a computer?

riis138 Re: so, I'm in the more than 8 yrs ago camp (391 comments)

I agree with this. They all have their own selling points along with specialty apps that are more/less important to some as they are to others. With VM's being an option nowadays it would seem that arguing which OS is better is a moot point. Run them all, storage is cheap and plentiful.
